Job Description SummaryA well-established and growing construction firm in San Diego is seeking an experienced Director of Construction to lead and oversee all construction operations across a portfolio of multifamily and urban residential projects. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving project execution from pre-construction through close-out, while ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are consistently met. The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on leader with deep experience in multifamily construction, design-build environments, and managing complex projects in urban settings.Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide overall leadership and direction for construction operations, including project managers, superintendents, and field teamsOversee all phases of multifamily and urban residential construction projects from pre-construction planning through completion and close-outDevelop and implement construction strategies, schedules, and workflows to support timely and cost-effective project deliveryEnsure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements, quality standards, and local building codesCollaborate closely with executive leadership, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure alignment across design and constructionEstablish and manage project budgets, cost forecasts, and financial controls across multiple concurrent projectsReview project performance metrics and implement corrective actions to address schedule, cost, or quality risksEnsure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations and promote a strong jobsite safety cultureOversee quality control processes and conduct regular site reviews and inspectionsManage subcontractor selection, contract negotiations, and performance, with a focus on long-term partnershipsServe as a primary point of contact for key stakeholders, inspectors, and permitting authoritiesProvide regular reporting and executive-level updates on project status, risks, and opportunitiesQualifications & RequirementsBachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field requiredMinimum of 10 years of progressive construction experience, including senior leadership or director-level rolesProven experience leading multifamily, mixed-use, or urban residential construction projectsStrong understanding of design-build delivery methods and integrated project teamsDemonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality standardsDeep knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and risk managementSolid understanding of building codes, entitlement processes, and safety regulations, particularly in dense urban environmentsProficiency with construction management and scheduling softwareStrong leadership, communication, and decision-making skillsAbility to operate strategically while remaining engaged in day-to-day operationsProfessional certifications such as PMP or CCM are preferredEmployment Type: Full time Location: San Diego, CA
