The successful candidate will be capable of leading the design, administration, and optimization of SQL Server environments running on AWS EC2 and RDS Aurora, supporting healthcare and regulated workloads. This role is responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, security, and compliance with HIPAA/HITECH requirements for mission-critical systems containing protected health information (PHI).\r\nKey Responsibilities\r\nAdministration and optimization [JM1] [JC2] of Microsoft SQL Server databases hosted on AWS EC2 and Amazon Aurora (MySQL-compatible)/RDS MySQL\r\nArchitect and manage highly available SQL Server environments using Always-On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and disaster recovery strategies\r\nDesign, deploy, and operate high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions for Aurora MySQL , including Multi-AZ, read replicas, backups, and point-in-time recovery\r\nSupport and optimize SSRS report execution, subscriptions, caching, snapshots, and scheduling\r\nIn partnership with the engineering organization, review and optimize developer-written SQL code (T-SQL and MySQL) to ensure performance, scalability, and adherence to database standards\r\nDesign and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery solutions across SQL Server and Aurora/RDS platforms\r\nEnsure database environments meet HIPAA/HITECH compliance requirements\r\nImplement database security best practices, including encryption, auditing, IAM integration, and least-privilege access\r\nMonitor and tune database performance, including query optimization and capacity planning for SQL Server and Aurora MySQL\r\nUse monitoring and observability tools such as Amazon CloudWatch, SolarWinds [JM3] [JC4], and DPA to track database and infrastructure health, investigate performance issues, and support proactive incident response\r\nTroubleshoot complex production issues across SQL Server, Aurora MySQL, Windows, Linux, and AWS storage/networking\r\nProvide operational support for core AWS infrastructure components supporting database platforms, including EC2, EBS, VPC networking, security groups, load balancing, and CloudWatch monitoring\r\nSupport AWS platform reliability through performance monitoring, storage optimization, backup validation, patch coordination, and troubleshooting of infrastructure-related database issues\r\nAutomation or Infrastructure as Code experience (PowerShell, Python, Terraform)\r\nPartner with security and compliance teams to support audits and risk assessments\r\nAutomate database operations using T-SQL, MySQL, PowerShell, and scripting tools\r\nMentor junior DBAs, maintain documentation, and runbooks\r\nParticipate in on-call rotations and lead incident response efforts\r\nRequired Qualifications\r\n7+ years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server\r\nStrong expertise with SQL Server 2016–2022 or later\r\nStrong expertise with MySQL 8.0-8.4 or later\r\nHands-on experience administering Amazon Aurora (MySQL-compatible) and/or RDS MySQL in production environments\r\nDeep knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery architectures for both SQL Server and cloud-managed databases\r\nStrong understanding of AWS services related to databases (EC2, RDS, Aurora, IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, Backup)\r\nExperience supporting
