You'll partner with creative and technical teams to build scalable AR/VR tools and infrastructure that enable consistent, reliable storytelling across stations.\r\nRole Overview\r\nThe AR/VR Development Designer conceptually designs and manually builds ARVR environments using Unreal Engine, Cinema 4D, and Adobe tools that scale across our group of stations. You'll work closely with creative leadership, producers, and the ARVR team to bring ideas to life in a way that feels modern, clear, and grounded in storytelling. We're looking for someone who understands restraint, composition, and how to use the technology with purpose.\r\nKey Responsibilities\r\nDesign and execute ARVR environments in Unreal Engine and Cinema 4D\r\nTake a concept and produce it — lighting, materials, motion, camera\r\nCreate scenes that feel intentional, not overdesigned, or cluttered\r\nOptimize everything for real-time performance and broadcast reliability\r\nKnow when to push—and when to simplify\r\nMake It About the Story: Work directly with producers to translate editorial ideas into visual space\r\nDesign with clarity first — what's the story, what matters, what doesn't\r\nAvoid \"3D clip art\" — everything on screen should have a reason to exist\r\nHelp evolve how we use ARVR so it enhances coverage\r\nCollaborate Without Overcomplicating: Work closely with the ARVR Project Manager and creative leads to move fast and stay aligned\r\nBe clear about what's possible, what's not, and what's worth doing\r\nTake feedback, iterate quickly, and keep things moving\r\nSupport both News and Sales without losing design integrity\r\nPush the Look Forward: Bring a contemporary design sensibility — clean, intentional, current\r\nExplore new techniques, workflows, and visual approaches\r\nHelp define what ARVR should look like across CBS Stations — not just execute it\r\nContribute to reusable assets and systems that scale across markets\r\nQualifications & Skills:\r\nStrong design background — motion, 3D, broadcast, experiential, or similar\r\nSolid Unreal Engine experience (real-time scene building is core to this role)\r\nProficiency in Cinema 4D and Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator)\r\nGood instincts for lighting, composition, typography, and motion\r\nUnderstanding of real-time constraints — performance matters\r\nAbility to work fast, stay organized, and handle multiple projects at once\r\nComfortable working with both creatives and non-creatives\r\nWhat Sets You Apart\r\nYou know when less is more (and when it's not!)\r\nYou're curious about the tech, but not distracted by it\r\nYou care about the story as much as the visuals\r\nYou want to make the experience in ARVR better—not just maintain it\r\nWhy CBS News & Stations\r\nAt CBS News & Stations, AR/VR is no longer experimental—it is operational, scalable, and central to how we tell stories.
