Senior Environmental Scientist

Moore Engineering Inc. is currently seeking a mid-level to senior Environmental Scientist to strengthen our Environmental Group by developing, leading, and managing environmental permitting strategies within the upper Midwest region. The role supports our business sectors in water and natural resources, energy, transportation, and both public and private infrastructure development. We encourage experienced professionals to apply and contribute leadership in permitting strategies for diverse projects throughout the region.The selected candidate will oversee various projects in water resources, transportation, and municipal services, working collaboratively with engineering teams and clients to ensure regulatory compliance and provide expert guidance. Key responsibilities include spearheading permitting initiatives, preparing detailed permit applications, tracking relevant policy developments, acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies and subcontractors, mentoring junior staff, and assisting with business development activities.Qualified individuals must hold a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related planning field, possess at least ten years of consulting experience, demonstrate extensive knowledge of Minnesota, North Dakota, and federal environmental regulations, and exhibit strong independent analytical and problem-solving skills. It's this collective passion that drives excellence in everything we do.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesLead environmental permitting strategies for civil engineering projects under state and federal regulatory agencies in the upper MidwestGuide the project team in permitting strategies and technical detail required for successful local, state and federal level regulatory programs for company business sectors (water, energy and natural resources, transportation and public/private infrastructure)Prepare siting and permit applications for federal, state and local authoritiesMonitor regulatory policy updates associated with state policy in MN, ND as well as federal regulations with NEPA complianceAct as owner’s liaison with subcontractors and agencies to resolve project issues.Serve as environmental subject matter expert for teams and stakeholders.Lead and mentor junior team members in daily operations.Oversee QAQC for environmental documentation and mentor junior staff.Support proposal and business development initiatives with technical expertise.Coordinate with agencies and stakeholders to secure project approvals and document outcomes.Perform other duties as assigned to support the Environmental Group’s objectives and the overall success of Moore Engineering Inc.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences/Studies or similar field10 years’ of consulting experienceDemonstrate professional judgment, consistency, strong attention to detail, and background of high-quality work productsExtensive knowledge of Minnesota, North Dakota and Federal environmental regulationsThe ability to work independently and collaboratively with a teamDemonstrate performance of independent analysis, problem solving and strong organizational skillsExperience in successfully advocating and/or negotiating with regulatory agencies and third parties in favor of client positionsOccasional out of state travel requiredMust have a valid driver’s license and be insurablePreferredMaster’s degree in Environmental Science/Studies or Planning related fieldDemonstrated NEPA experienceStrong GIS skillsThe culture at Moore Engineering, Inc. is built on our shared core values- Respect, Integrity, Accountability, Loyalty, and Kindness.Respect means that we honor our co-workers, appreciate cultural differences, and value all viewpoints brought in good faith.Integrity means we remain consistent and honest, and uphold our obligation to the health, safety, and welfare of the people at the center of our work.Accountability means we take responsibility for our actions, to commitments we make, and to our role in creating company success.Loyalty means we are dependable and faithful. The range displayed reflects salaries for the position based in Minnesota locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and factors such as education, experience, credentials, and job-related skills. Certain positions are eligible for participation in incentive compensation programs.For Colorado residents: the pay range for this position is $102,240-$140,580. The range displayed reflects salaries for the position based in Colorado locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and factors such as education, experience, credentials, and job-related skills.
