Position Type:Transportation/Transportation SupervisorDate Posted:5/21/2026Location:Lake Local SchoolsDate Available:08/03/2026Closing Date:05/29/2026LAKE LOCAL BOARD OF EDUCATIONJob DescriptionTransportation SupervisorReports To: HR DirectorEmployment Status: Full TimeFLSA Status: ExemptQualifications:Ability to meet all requirements listed in the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC 3301-83-06) for the position.Good health, high moral character, and a high school graduate.A valid commercial driver's license with CDL/bus driver endorsement is required.Commitment to visibility, accountability and responsiveness to the Lake community.Stays informed of industry standards and all rules/laws.General Description: Routing of school buses, scheduling special trips, supervision of drivers and mechanical repair, and maintains and promotes good community relations.Transportation: Adjust bus routes following the opening of school according to the size of the bus and the size of the load.Set up kindergarten bus routes.Works closely with and is in attendance during annual inspections made by the Ohio State Highway Patrol inspector.Be present at bus inspections.Hold periodic driver safety meetings for all bus drivers.Assists in training programs for personnel within the transportation department.Is responsible for the preparation of accident reports and reporting such to the local superintendent and treasurer.Secures substitute transportation personnel.Train and assign substitute bus drivers.Recommend replacement drivers.Keep maintenance records of all buses.Schedule routine maintenance of buses and supervise the bus mechanic.Help prepare specifications for the purchase of buses.Investigate parent complaints with building administrators.Schedule field trips.Schedule athletic trips.Maintain a current district map, a current roster of pupils transported, and prepare all reports applicable to the transportation department, i.e., route descriptions, pick up/drop off points, pupils school attended, grade, bus number, and so forth.Make periodic on-site inspection of buses.Assists in preparation of the budget for the department.Assists with state forms and driver physicals.Create an information package for substitute drivers.Learn all routes; establish loading and unloading procedures.Inspect bus turn-a-rounds and help determine stops.Schedule the transportation of handicapped students.Routes discipline problems through instructed channels through building administrators.Supervises and maintains a current inventory of supplies and materials related to transportation matters within the district.Assists in promotion of good safety practices and procedures.Keeps abreast of new techniques and operations concerning transportation.Serves as a source of information on areas related to transportation.Checks roads in inclement weather and advises the local superintendent.Activities: Responsible for coordinating co-curricular activities with the rest of the master schedule as well as seeing that the proper forms for after-school and evening use of the facilities are completed.Evaluate all co-curricular programs and advisors (with the possible exception of music programs) and make recommendations on programs and coaching assignments.Coordinate and approve the purchasing of awards for any club activities.Maintain records of meeting minutes and other activities attended and/or sponsored by clubs.In support of the co-curricular program, attend as many events as possible or secure a designated representative of the school.Delegate appropriate duties and authority to subordinates while retaining responsibility for all results.Schedule events; reschedule postponements.Evaluate all club advisors.Be responsible for all co-curricular budget accounts (except music programs).Conduct non-renewal and renewal procedures for all advisors.Promote and help maintain high standards of conduct among students in the high school.Implement Code of Conduct, if/when necessary.Assist with commencement exercises.Assist with all school assemblies.Responsible for collection of fees from all activities.Other Duties and Responsibilities : Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values; andConducts other duties related to the director/supervisor's duties as assigned by the HR Director, assistant superintendent or local superintendent of schools.ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.Occasional operation of a bus, truck, or vehicle under inclement weather conditions.Occasional interaction among unruly children.
