The FTSoftE is tasked with the development, implementation, documentation, testing, integration, and maintenance of all software slated for execution on the research computer systems, sensor systems, and data acquisition systems aboard TDD’s research helicopters and their associated System Integration Labs (SIL). These systems encompass flight controls, autonomy systems, active inceptors, navigation and guidance systems, cockpit displays, telemetry, on-board computer networks including 4G-LTE modems and Satellite Data Units, and real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulation.\nThe FTSoftE is additionally expected to participate in the development of requirements, specifications, and test plans, preliminary and critical design reviews, support airworthiness substantiation, and closely collaborate with the rest of the research team to ensure project success. The FTsoftE will work with the engineering, operations, and maintenance personnel associated with each individual flight test project to prepare for and conduct flight test operations at Ft. Eustis, VA or other locations as required.\nThe FTSoftE will be trained to operate aircraft research systems and may be required to fly aboard TDD research aircraft as a System Operator. They must be able to effectively work with all stakeholders, including Principal Investigators (PIs) in the TDD Technical Areas, other TDD research programs, PEO Aviation, other Government organizations, U.S. Industry, and international collaborators.\nStrong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required. Experience in C code, Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB), Simulink, and Linux operating system required.
