This position plays an important role in the department through development activities across a number of projects and supporting local approvals for projects. Upon completion of development the candidate will be responsible to develop engineering design packages for permitting. The candidate will be responsible for completing the work either directly or through external resources.Role Responsibilities:Develop preliminary PV and BESS system design drawings under the supervision of the senior design staffSubmission of interconnection application and engineering oversight of the application through the process under supervision of senior design staffResolve issues as they arise through the interconnection process through keeping abreast of local utility design standards and interconnection processesEnsure all design deliverables meet the internal engineering standards and pertinent codesDevelop PV Syst models for the individual projects and evaluation of new marketsCoordinate external engineering resources as necessary and manage the task order and accounting processEvaluate site plan impact from different BES manufacturers and provide design recommendations regarding how project metrics are impacted such as footprint, and equipment layout configurationCreate single line diagrams for interconnection applications and other detailed technical drawings to support preliminary evaluation of sites or projects under construction, as requiredReview of Request for Proposals and support proposal development. Provide proposal input including detailed technical project descriptions, legal risk and responsibility definitions, financial analysis, detailed supporting documentation of contractor quotes, simulation results, and cost and savings derivationsCoordinate and review the final site plans with the senior design staff and inter discipline reviews to ensure compliance with other design considerations such as Civil and Structural Engineering. These include items such as weight restrictions, geotechnical challenges, flood elevations, wetland setbacks and advisory to those disciplines of electrical issuesSupport Development and Construction activities on site and perform on site visits as necessary to support the project constructionTrain and develop junior engineers and design/drafting technicians on electrical systems design, technologies, codes and contract document preparationReview the design approach methods and equipment selection to ensure the best overall project design and customer goals are achievedReview Power Purchase Agreements and EPC agreements to ensure design and energy model complianceOversee various testing and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of completed projectsJob Requirements and Experience:Undergraduate (BS) Degree in Electrical or Mechanical EngineeringPE Registration as a Professional Engineer (preferred)NABCEP certification (preferred) - PV Design Specialist or PV Installation ProfessionalDrivers LicenseCompetent with computer software including Microsoft office suite, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and PVcase Ground MountMinimum 5 years of experience designing photovoltaic systems and/or BES projects, with experience doing 1-5 MW sized ground mounted systems preferredDemonstrates knowledge of PVsyst and energy system modelingAble to plan and manage the development and production of permit and contract documents for the construction of electrical PV systemsAbility to work individually or as part of a teamSelf-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environmentAnalytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various problemsCapable to interact effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadlinesAbility to integrate both verbal and written communications with interpersonal skills.Interpersonal skills necessary to work within a cross functional teamAbility to represent the company wellStrong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationshipsDemonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables spaceExcellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and TeamsExcellent proficiency with AutoCADStrong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlinesStrong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverablesAbility to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a teamMotivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilitiesProven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgroundsResponds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachableIs detail-oriented, has strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of business conceptsRemote or hybrid business hours splitting time between home and officeAbility to travel out of town as required to development, construction or operating assets (approximately 30% of the time)Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
