Network Engineer

Talascend is currently seeking a Network Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Dover, New JerseyOverviewthe role involves supporting large information technology projects by designing, configuring, testing, implementing, and supporting local area network infrastructure from development to operations. the engineer will work on a variety of network technologies including Cisco switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, access points, load balancers, and other emerging technologies.ResponsibilitiesProvides daily support with resolution of escalated ticketsApplies operation break fixes and other proactive maintenance activities until permanent solutions can be implementedSupports and participates in the software deployment process for new modules, upgrades, and fixes to the production environmentArchitects, designs, configures, tests, implements, reviews, supports, and presents on-premise and cloud networking solutionsKeeps existing network facilities portfolio under support and manages lifecycle plans and investment road mapsStays updated on the latest technology advancements and future trends in networkingIdentifies technical requirements and provides cost-effective solutions to meet business needs and support business growthAutomates tasks where possible to improve efficiencyValidates new requests against existing architecture for compatibility and business needsDevelops and communicates reusable architecture policies, standards, procedures, and metricsEnsures design and implementation meet security and quality assurance standardsAnalyzes root causes and suggests fixes for issuesMaintains existing service level agreementsQualificationsBachelor's degree and at least 6+ years of experience in network engineering, architecture, or related rolesExperience designing, developing, coding, implementing, operating, supporting, and managing network projects and solutionsHeavy focus on at least 3 of the following: Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, F5 load balancers, wireless controllers, Cisco ISE, Cisco NACAdditional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degreeProven 2-3 years of experience in network operations support and troubleshooting or similar in software developmentAt least 2 years of experience working as a consultant analyzing end-user needs and designing network solutionsAt least 1 year applying architectural principles, managing product life cycles, evaluating new technologies, and developing proof of conceptsExcellent communication, leadership, and consultative skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiationPreferred QualificationsExperience in scripting and infrastructure as code using tools such as AnsibleAdvanced professional certifications such as Cisco CCT, CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CCIE; Project Management Professional (PMP); ITILKnowledge of cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), directory services (LDAP, DNS, AD), configuration management databases (CMDB), ServiceNow, SolarWinds, and cybersecurityKnowledge of the utility businessWe thank all applicants for their interest.
