Job Description Job SummaryThe Fleet Maintenance Mechanic II is an experienced diesel mechanic responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining fleet vehicles and agricultural equipment. This position works with large engines and heavy machinery to ensure safe operation and optimal performance. The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic II is expected to train and mentor less experienced mechanics as needed.The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic II is skilled in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues involving trucks and heavy equipment, including the disassembly and reassembly of engines and major components. Work may be performed both in the shop and in the field repairing agricultural equipment. This role requires advanced knowledge beyond engine repair, including electrical systems, hydraulics, fuel and brake systems.Job ResponsibilitiesStrategic and tactical work for which this position is accountableWith minimal supervision, the Fleet Maintenance Mechanic II is responsible for:Performing inspections, maintenance, and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, forklifts, pickups, and farm equipment;Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, steering, and cooling systems;Completing complex and advanced repairs;Tracking, documenting, and reviewing maintenance and repair work performed on vehicles and equipment;Ensuring all services and repairs comply with established safety procedures and company standards;Training, mentoring, and providing technical guidance and support to less experienced Fleet Maintenance Mechanics;Driving delivery or manure trucks as needed;Providing assistance in the field during peak planting and harvesting seasons (Clarence Shop); andPerforming other duties as assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesCapabilities and traits essential to perform satisfactorilyAttention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve detailed mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.Mechanical Skills: Advanced knowledge of complex machinery, engines, and repair techniques beyond entry-level maintenance.Technical Skills: Proficiency in electronic systems, blueprint and schematic reading, and electronic diagnostic equipment.Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to independently evaluate mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, identify root causes, and implement effective repair solutions.Leadership Skills: Ability to train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to less experienced mechanics.Education and experienceHigh School diploma is required.Associate degree in diesel technology or a related field is preferred.Minimum of three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, or Associate degree in diesel technology and three years of experience is required.Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit required; CDL preferred.Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentThis position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in diesel repair shop and in an agricultural setting.
