This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist or engineer who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, microscopy, and analytical testing in a research and manufacturing environment.\nLocation: Corning, NY (100% Onsite)\nSchedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM\nEmployment Type: Contract\nResponsibilities\nPerform optical microscopy analysis using stereomicroscopy and polarized light microscopy to evaluate glass and material samples.\nPrepare glass and refractory samples through cutting, mounting, epoxying, grinding, and polishing.\nSupport liquidus and devitrification testing using established laboratory procedures.\nConduct analytical testing utilizing SEM/EDX and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD).\nIdentify crystalline phases and document analytical observations.\nCompile laboratory data and prepare reports for engineering and scientific teams.\nTrack samples, prioritize laboratory workload, and maintain accurate documentation.\nSupport laboratory operations, equipment readiness, and inventory management.\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Materials Science, Geology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline.\n0–3 years of laboratory, research, or materials analysis experience.\nExperience working in a laboratory environment.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.\nAbility to work independently while collaborating with engineers and scientists.\nComfortable lifting up to 25 lbs.\nPreferred Qualifications\nHands-on experience with optical microscopy.\nExperience with SEM/EDX, XRD, or other analytical laboratory instrumentation.\nExperience preparing laboratory samples (mounting, grinding, polishing, cutting, or epoxying).\nKnowledge of glass, ceramics, minerals, refractories, or other engineering materials.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.\nStrong organizational, communication, and time management skills.\nIdeal Candidate\nWe're looking for someone who enjoys working in a laboratory setting and has a curious, analytical mindset.
