Additional duties include:\n\nPreparing objectives, assignments, grading standards, attendance policies and course syllabi to be distributed at first class meeting.\n\nProviding the supervisor with syllabi, objectives and course outlines for each class.\n\nBeing well prepared for each class.\n\nKeeping accurate attendance and grade records.\n\nTurning in reports, final grades, and other forms on time.\n\nUsing various and innovative teaching techniques where applicable.\n\nReturning homework assignments and exams on a timely basis.\n\nRevising course content and objectives as required.\n\nMaking suggestions to the supervisor regarding textbooks, software, instructional materials, supplies, and/or equipment needs.\n\nMaintain professional awareness and currency of important Software and Web Development issues, incorporating them into instruction.\n\nUse instructional, computer, and distance learning technologies (e.g., Canvas) for contemporary presentation of course material.\n\nTeach assigned courses with attention to the college's mission, open door philosophy and student success.\n\nMust complete all mandatory work‑related and professional development training.\n\nProgram Responsibilities\n\nImplement and enforce college academic policies and procedures along with administrative rules and regulations to maintain high standards of instruction.\n\nMaintain and process office records, grade and enrollment reports, forms, and paperwork in a timely manner.\n\nDevelop courses and syllabi as requested.\n\nInstructional Management and Supervision\n\nUtilize effective instructional technology to deliver content in non-traditional and traditional formats.\n\nQualifications\n\nAssociate’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.\n\nAt least three years of full‑time work experience in an IT‑related industry, preferably as a programmer or developer.\n\nExcellent software development skills with experience in at least one language or tool (Java, C++, Visual C#, Visual Basic, Python, Swift, HTML, JavaScript, Adobe Dreamweaver, SQL, SAS).\n\nCompetency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).\n\nKnowledge of educational needs of the Durham Technical Community College service area.\n\nAbility to establish, maintain, and promote effective communication and interpersonal relations across departmental lines, with associates, and with the business community, higher education community, and the general public.\n\nDemonstrated sensitivity to needs and expectations of students, faculty, staff, advisory or community groups.\n\nUnderstanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of a community college.\n\nKnowledge of the commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System.\n\nDemonstrated competence in oral, written, and computer skills appropriate.\n\nEvidence of strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication/public‑relations skills.\n\nExcellent problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.\n\nAbility to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.\n\nAbility to think creatively and put ideas into action.\n\nAbility to make presentations to large audiences.\n\nPersonal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.\n\nPhysical Demands\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
