The Associate QC microbiologist will work with the supervising QC Microbiologist in Innospec’s new microbiology laboratory and must demonstrate special attention to safety, organization, and communication. Candidate will be responsible for adhering to SOPs for microbiology Quality Control testing of existing products based on industry standard methods. Tests may include various antimicrobial performance bioburden challenge studies for new and existing products.\nPrimary Responsibilities:\nPerform standard microbiology enumerations for all samples from Salisbury and High Point sites. This will include both plating or filter plating for bacteria, yeast, and mold, and preparing media and neutralizing dilution buffer.\nPerform Gram Staining on all positive samples from bacteria plate counts.\n· Test local plant water sources for Total Faecal Coliform.\nRoutine laboratory equipment maintenance as identified.\nMaintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory.\nDevelop timely and organized QC reports of all samples.\n· Keep accurate records of the day-to-day lab activities.\nOther duties as assigned.\nQualifications/Education:\nMinimum Bachelor’s degree, or an Associate’s degree with microbiology lab-course experience. Microbiology, biology, or a biotechnology field preferred.\n1 – 4 years of experience in the industry; new graduates will be considered.(?)\nBasic knowledge and experience of microbiology, culturing techniques, media preparation and quantitative microbiological methods.\nCompetent in all Microsoft Office suite software, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.\nStrong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively (verbal/written).\nExcellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks/projects with a strong attention to detail.\n· Must be a team player with excellent problem-solving skills.\nSelf-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.\nExceptional attendance and work ethic.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nAbility to stand and/or walk for long periods during an 8-hour shift.\nIn addition to standing and walking, the frequent physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination, and feeling.\nWORK ENVIRONMENT\nSubject to hazards.
