Graphic DesignerReports To: Program Director– Homeboy Art AcademyClassification: Full-Time, Non-ExemptPosition SummaryThe Graphic Designer will support the mission of Homeboy Art Academy by using design as a tool for storytelling, empowerment, and transformation. This position requires a culturally responsive approach in working with formerly gang-involved and system-impacted populations. The Graphic Designer will integrate their creative expertise with restorative and community-based practices, contributing to arts education, healing through the arts, and the development of transferable skills that connect participants to the creative economy.QualificationsSelf-taught designers with strong transferable skill sets encouraged to applyBachelor’s degree (BA) or Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or related field preferredMinimum of 3+ years of professional experience with a portfolio demonstrating expertise across print, digital, and brandingKnowledge of arts education and healing through arts practicesExperience with culturally responsive and restorative, community-based educationResponsibilitiesCreate visual text and imagery concepts by hand or using computer software to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivateDevelop layouts, illustrations, logos, branding, and production design for events, advertisements, brochures, magazines, and other mediaDesign for web, digital, and social media platformsCollaborate with formerly gang-involved and system-impacted populations to support their graphic design needs as part of the Creative Economy trackSupport curriculum development that connects graphic design with transferable career skillsAssist Art Navigators and staff with production, space design, and creative needsCommunicate in advance (day of or day before) if unable to attend workSchedule vacation in advance to ensure coverage and coordinationArrive on time and maintain consistent attendanceParticipate in staff meetings as requiredKey CompetenciesStrong visual communication and creative problem-solving skillsAbility to collaborate in a healing-centered, community-based environmentCulturally responsive and respectful approach to diverse lived experiencesReliable, punctual, and organized with excellent follow-throughPassion for the mission of Homeboy Art Academy: healing, transformation, and empowerment through the artsPay Range $31-$33 an hourPowered by JazzHRdfBePoBSPC
