Rehabilitation Specialist- Cedar RapidsSmith Center - Cedar Rapids, IA 52404OverviewPosition Type Full Time Travel Percentage Minimal Travel Required - less than 10%DescriptionAs the Rehabilitation Specialist, you will be responsible for developing plans and helping engage children in meaningful activities, while each child receives therapy in our residential treatment settings. This position supports children's mental health rehabilitation and community reintegration, while teaching residential staff to support each child in achieving their treatment goals.Responsibilities:Help clients develop coping skills, manage daily routines, and improve cognitive or social function. This individual will work in a residential treatment facility and/or a community setting to foster independence and emotional regulation through therapeutic, purposeful activities.Implementing Treatment Plans: Executing individualized, functional interventions to boost independence in daily life.Client Engagement: Develop and direct recreational activities specifically designed for each child in treatment. Identify each child's likes, dislikes, and opportunities for positive peer interactions. Lead therapeutic groups for social skill development and conduct one-on-one sessions for personalized care.Skill Building & Coping Strategies: Teaching mindfulness, time management, self-regulation skills, and social skills to manage conditions like anxiety, depression, or ADHD.Monitoring Progress: Documenting progress, assessing emotional status, and providing feedback to the team.QualificationsMust be at least 21 years of age. Completion of an accredited OTA program and passing the certification exam or completion of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification is preferred. A Bachelor's degree or higher with related experience may be considered an acceptable alternative qualification.Therapeutic Recreation or a recreation-related field. A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CRTS) certification is preferred but not required.
