Job Title: Mechanical DesignerJob DescriptionThis role supports the design and engineering of industrial energy projects by developing mechanical and piping solutions, preparing engineering documentation, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The mechanical designer contributes to project execution across diverse markets such as oil and gas, hydrogen, energy storage, and alternative energy, helping deliver high-quality, compliant, and efficient systems for clients.ResponsibilitiesSupport the design and engineering of industrial energy projects, with a focus on mechanical and piping systems.Assist in preparing drawings, calculations, and basic engineering documentation, including reports and bills of materials (BOMs).Develop and update 3D piping models using tools such as CADWorx, Plant 3D, or MicroStation OpenPlant.Contribute to hydraulic calculations and piping system design using hydraulic modeling and pipe stress analysis software such as AFT products and AutoPIPE or similar tools.Apply knowledge of ASME and API codes and standards to ensure designs comply with applicable regulations and industry best practices.Participate in project coordination with multidisciplinary teams, supporting effective communication between mechanical, electrical, civil, and other disciplines.Assist with project execution activities, including documentation, reporting, and preparation of client deliverables.Support multi-discipline project work, including coordination tasks and, where applicable, elements of project management.Collaborate with team members in a tight-knit office environment to solve technical challenges and deliver high-quality project outcomes.Travel occasionally as needed to support project activities, coordination meetings, or site-related tasks.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required for engineering-track candidates.4–10 years of experience as a mid-level mechanical designer or engineer, with 5–10 years of relevant experience in industrial or energy projects.Experience with industrial systems or projects such as oil and gas, midstream, hydrogen, microgrids, energy storage, biofuels, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), alternative energy, mining, water/wastewater, advanced manufacturing, chemical processing, air separation, or refineries.Proficiency in supporting design work, including drawings, calculations, reports, and bills of materials (BOMs).Understanding of hydraulics and piping systems, including hydraulic calculations.Familiarity with ASME and API codes and standards.Experience working on multi-discipline projects, including coordination with other engineering disciplines.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications for documentation, analysis, and reporting.Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.Willingness to travel occasionally to support project needs.Additional Skills & QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license is preferred for engineering-track candidates.Proficiency in 3D modeling for piping design, with experience in CADWorx preferred; experience with Plant 3D or MicroStation OpenPlant is also valued.Experience with hydraulic modeling software such as AFT products is a plus.Experience with pipe stress modeling software such as AutoPIPE, or similar tools like Aspen-related stress modeling, Bentley AutoPIPE, or CAESAR, is preferred.Heavy industrial mechanical or piping design experience is beneficial.Experience in energy transition and emerging markets such as hydrogen, microgrids, energy storage, biofuels, and alternative energy is advantageous.Interest in long-term career development within a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a tight-knit, collaborative office environment of approximately 30 people, with strong support across disciplines and a culture that combines a small-firm feel with the resources and project exposure of a larger organization. The position requires working in the office for the first six months to support onboarding, collaboration, and integration with the team; after this period, you can develop a flexible schedule in coordination with your manager. The work involves diverse project assignments across growing energy markets, including oil and gas, hydrogen, storage, and alternative energy, with a strong emphasis on work-life balance and long-term career development.
