Biometrician
Job Title: Forest Biometrician Job Overview: S&A has an immediate need for a forest biometrician to support the validation/verification of forest carbon offset projects both in the California ARB compliance market and the voluntary markets. Strong background in forest biometrics, statistics and growth-and-yield modeling is required. The work location is flexible, with the opportunity for domestic/international travel if desired.Roles & Responsibilities: Review and assess offset project documents and analyses, including inventory calculations, forest growth and yield modelling, GIS and/or remote sensing information.Evaluate forest inventories and sampling protocols for estimation of carbon and other forest inventory metrics. Assess the quality and accuracy of offset project inventory data reports for conformance with GHG standards.Represent S&A in technical discussions with clients and GHG ProgramsMaintain and improve internal S&A tools to support project verifications.Perform field work to verify inventories (Optional). Minimum Requirements:A master’s degree in statistics or forest biometrics, or another closely related science that includes: o 12 semester or 16 quarter hours of forest biometrics, sampling design and/or statistics coursework; or o University coursework that includes 12 semester or 16 quarter hours of forest biometrics, sampling design and/or statistics coursework, and at least two years of experience sampling, developing, implementing, and analyzing forest biomass or carbon inventories.Strong knowledge of, and experience with, forest biometrics, statistics, and growth and yield models (FVS, FPS, FORSEE and similar).Excellent data management skills and analysis skills.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and within a team.Ability to effectively manage multiple projects at once and meet client and registry deadlines. Preferred Experience/Skills: GIS experience with ArcMap, QGIS or similar software.Familiarity with Remsoft and/or other optimization models.Proficient with MS Excel, MS Access.Programming experience with R, Python, VBA, SAS.SAF Certified Forester or state licensing.Familiarity with voluntary/compliance carbon markets, forest carbon offset protocols and methodologies If you are interested in this role, please send a resume and cover letter to admin@saacarbon.com About S&A Carbon: S&A Carbon is a verification services provider, specializing in forest carbon projects.
