Reporting to the Director of Process Engineering, this role will apply engineering insights and process models to build a pilot plant for a novel Direct Air Capture (DAC) process for CO₂ removal. The pilot will be leveraged to refine the design for scale-up to a greater than 5 KTA demonstration facility. This is a remote, US-based position.\nResponsibilities Include:\nSupport the translation of our conceptual design for a novel process into a working pilot facility.\nIdentify, analyze, develop, configure, and optimize process improvements for our evolving process design.\nLead conceptual and detailed process design of laboratory and bench scale rigs to generate process data supporting pilot and demo conceptual design. Support commissioning of said rigs on-site as necessary.\nPartner with colleagues to convert modeling insights into implementable projects including equipment specification, control philosophies, installation scope of work documents, and commissioning plans.\nLeverage and create simplified models in Excel and VBA.\nApply statistical analysis tools to the visualization and analysis of experimental and process data, and to the development of correlations to summarize that data.\nEngage in Design Risk Assessments including HAZID and HAZOP analyses where appropriate.\nManage relationships with key client stakeholders and relevant subcontractors and equipment suppliers.\nEvaluate pilot and production equipment's overall performance, reliability, and safety.\nAlter and modify designs to meet requirements and to eliminate malfunctions.\nPrepare engineering reports and documentation.\nRequirements Include:\nBachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 to 10 years of experience.\nCompetency in the field of chemical engineering process operations involving heat transfer, mass transfer, fluid and gas flow, and separation techniques.\nBroad experience in new process design and conceptualization in the chemical, biological, or agrifood space.\nExtensive experience generating and reviewing process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, energy and material balances, utility requirements, and control logic for chemical manufacturing systems.\nPrevious experience working in a process engineering capacity within a chemical, biotech, agrifood, or oil and gas plant.\nPrevious experience working with external engineering design firms, or directly at an engineering design firm, on capital projects exceeding $1M.\nAbility to leverage Excel, VBA, Python, or similar tools to solve engineering problems.\nAn inquisitive nature to drill down into details and apply logical reasoning to develop solutions.\nAbility to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner.\nAbility to work effectively on cross-functional teams.\n\nDesired Qualifications and Skills\nGraduate degree in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering.\nPrevious startup experience and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.\nExperience in technoeconomic analysis or process simulation.
