Special Education Teacher (Mild to Mod)
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher (Mild to Moderate) to join our educational team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing individualized instructional programs tailored to students with mild to moderate disabilities. This role involves fostering an inclusive learning environment, supporting students' academic and social development, and collaborating closely with families, therapists, and other educators. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in special education, classroom management, and behavioral strategies, ensuring each student receives the support necessary to thrive academically and socially.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) aligned with state standards and tailored to each student's unique needs.
Design engaging lesson plans across core subjects such as literacy, math, and social skills, incorporating evidence-based teaching methods.
Utilize behavioral management techniques to promote positive classroom behavior and support social-emotional development.
Adapt instructional materials and activities for students with diverse learning needs, including those with autism, developmental disabilities, or hearing impairments.
Conduct assessments, including standardized testing and progress monitoring, to evaluate student growth and inform instruction.
Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to support comprehensive student development.
Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, IEP goals, and behavioral interventions.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student achievements, challenges, and strategies for continued support.
Participate in team meetings, professional development sessions, and curriculum development initiatives.
Support early intervention efforts by working with preschool-aged children when applicable.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; valid teaching certification for special education (mild to moderate).
Proven experience working with students with disabilities in classroom settings.
Knowledge of curriculum development tailored for special education populations.
Familiarity with behavioral therapy techniques and behavior management strategies.
Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, or hearing impairments such as deaf education.
Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with families, colleagues, and service providers.
Ability to develop individualized lesson plans that meet diverse learning needs.
Proficiency in using assessment tools, IEP software, and educational technology platforms.
Understanding of childhood development principles and early intervention practices.
