Investigates root causes of failures to maintain quality and recommend improvements.\nPosition Overview Xcel Energy is seeking an E&C Engineer level I to support two single‑cycle combustion turbine projects in the SPS territory. This is a field‑based engineering role focused on supporting construction execution, EPC RFI coordination, open engineering items, and commissioning/start‑up activities.\nScope of Work & Key Responsibilities Act as a field engineer supporting EPC RFI submittal and response processes\nSupport open engineering items during construction\nAssist with commissioning and start‑up activities\nProvide technical oversight of EPC field activities\nCoordinate with project managers, engineers, construction managers, and external vendors\nTypical Day The resource will be onsite supporting day‑to‑day construction and engineering activities, reviewing drawings, supporting RFIs, coordinating with the EPC and turbine manufacturer, and assisting with technical issue resolution.\nTeam & Stakeholders This role will be working closely with Xcel project managers, assistant project managers, internal engineering team members, construction managers, EPC contractor Kiewit, and turbine manufacturer Siemens.\nWork Environment & Safety This is a full‑time, onsite field role requiring PPE including high‑visibility vests and steel‑toe boots. A one‑time reimbursement up to $75 for steel‑toe boots is approved and should be submitted via VNDLY.\nRamp‑Up Expectations Week 1: Become familiar with the project, team, drawings, schedule, and RFI processes.\nMonth 1: Actively support RFIs, engineering reviews, and field coordination with EPC and vendors.\nWork Hours & Overtime Standard daytime work hours are expected. As construction activities ramp up, overtime and potential Saturday work may be required.\nProject Duration & Extension Potential The initial assignment is expected to be 12 months. The overall project duration is estimated at approximately three years, with a high likelihood of extension.\nRequired Skills & Experience Experience supporting EPC construction projects\nFamiliarity with RFI submittal and document control processes\nExperience with Siemens combustion turbines (preferred)\nMechanical and electrical engineering exposure (mechanical preferred)\nExperience working onsite in construction or field environments\nValid driver's license\nTools & Systems SharePoint and similar document management platforms\nEPC document transmittal systems (e.g., InEight / TeamBinder – preferred, not required)\nMicrosoft Office and Microsoft Teams\nPreferred Candidate Background Candidates with experience at major EPC firms or utilities such as Burns & McDonnell, Black & Veatch, Sargent & Lundy, Kiewit, Siemens, or other large IOU utilities are preferred.
