Description: DocMe360 is seeking a talented Junior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. The Junior Software Engineer role will provide software development expertise on a cross-functional team supporting the Department of Veteran Affairs.This role is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions aligned with mission objectives and technical standards. The Junior Software Engineer collaborates with multiple VA teams and stakeholders to translate functional requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable code.The Department of Veterans Affairs requires this candidate to be a U.S. citizen.This role is currently structured as a 1099 contract position, with the potential to transition to a W-2 role in the future.ResponsibilitiesSoftware Design & DevelopmentDesign, develop, test, and deploy software solutions using Java and Spring BootIntegrate code and repository management with GitHub CopilotWrite clean, maintainable, and well-documented code aligned with best practicesParticipate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical design decisionsImplement APIs, integrations, and data processing components as requiredCode Quality & Technical ExcellenceConduct peer code reviews and provide constructive feedbackEnsure adherence to coding standards, secure development practices, and performance optimization guidelinesDevelop and maintain automated unit and integration testsTroubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across environmentsAgile Development & CollaborationParticipate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, demos, and retrospectivesCollaborate closely with product managers, architects, UX designers, and other engineersProvide effort estimates and technical input during planning cyclesSupport CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflowsSystem Maintenance & Continuous ImprovementMaintain & enhance existing products to improve performance, scalability, and reliabilityIdentify and remediate technical debtSupport production deployments and assist in root cause analysis when issues ariseRecommend improvements to tools, frameworks, and development processesAdhere to the DocMe360 Core ValuesDelivery – Deliver all efforts through a culture of honesty, transparency, unwavering integrity, and professional growthOptimist – Optimize and invest in professional growth, empowerment, and well-beingCollaboration – Collaborate for impact; foster teamwork and shared expertise to achieve successMotivation – Motivate from within to naturally inspire and energize clients with passion and purposeExploration – Explore opportunities for innovative technologies and trends that align with our mission and foster the highest quality of products and servicesMinimum QualificationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)2+ years of professional software development experienceProven experience building and maintaining enterprise or mission-critical systemsExperience working within agile development teamsTechnical SkillsUnderstanding of secure coding practices and application security fundamentals.Proficiency in Java and Spring DevelopmentExperience with modern software frameworks and development tools within the JavaScript ecosystemFamiliarity with Maven, SQL, and DockerExperience designing and consuming RESTful APIsExperience working with relational and/or NoSQL databasesFamiliarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or similar)Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practicesAI-Assisted Development: Proven experience integrating AI tools (such as GitHub Copilot) into daily development workflows to accelerate delivery, write efficient code, and improve test coverageProblem-Solving & CommunicationStrong analytical and debugging skillsAbility to break down complex technical problems into implementable solutionsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholdersPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting federal or regulated environmentsExperience modernizing legacy systemsExperience with containerization and orchestration toolsExpected 1099 rate range for this role is $60/Hr - $85/HrIf converted to W2, expected salary range for this role is $65,000 - $95,000The benefits listed below are for full-time W2 employees:Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental, & Vision)Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)Family Leave (Maternity & Paternity)Training & DevelopmentWork From Home
