This role leads a multidisciplinary engineering team focused on process optimization, new product introduction (NPI), tooling and fixture design, manufacturability improvements, and technical support for Production, Quality, and Program Management.\nYou will oversee daily engineering operations while shaping the long-term technical direction of the company. This includes developing engineering talent, ensuring robust document control, strengthening cross-functional communication, and championing Lean/2 Second Lean initiatives that directly support safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives, and supporting our employees to become the best versions of themselves.\nKey Responsibilities: (include but not limited to): Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following:\nLeadership & Team Development\nLead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Engineering Team, including Process Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Interns, and Technicians.\nSet clear expectations, goals, and developmental paths aligned with Athena’s strategic priorities.\nFoster a culture of curiosity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.\nEnsure team alignment with 2 Second Lean, encouraging daily waste reduction, problem-solving, and standardized work.\nPerform other jobs or functions assigned by upper management.\nTechnical & Operational Leadership\nOversee engineering support for machining, fabrication, assembly, coating, and cleanroom operations.\nDrive manufacturing process optimization to reduce cycle times, improve throughput, and increase yield.\nLead efforts to improve manufacturability, including developing jigs, fixtures, tooling, and work instructions.\nServe as a technical escalation point for complex manufacturing challenges and customer-driven requirements.\nEnsure engineering processes, drawings, and routings are accurate, current, and compliant with internal and customer standards.\nNew Product Introduction (NPI) & Project Execution\nManage NPI engineering activities from initial concept reviews through production launch and stabilization.\nCollaborate closely with Program Management, Quality, and Production to ensure successful transitions from prototype to scaled production.\nPartner with customers on technical requirements, design updates, tolerance reviews, and risk mitigation.\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nWork closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Program Management to align engineering priorities and resolve production issues.\nEnsure timely communication and technical clarity across all levels of the organization.\nSupport cross-department initiatives, internal audits, and customer audits as required.\nData, Systems & Documentation\nOversee engineering document control, ensuring compliance with QMS, customer requirements, and change management best practices.\nChampion improvements to M2M, Paperless Parts, CAD/PDM systems, and other digital tools to streamline engineering workflows.\nSupport company-wide efforts to increase visibility using dashboards, KPIs, and data-driven decision-making.\nSafety, Quality & Compliance\nEnsure engineering solutions meet safety standards, prevent hazards, and enhance ergonomics.\nWork closely with Quality to reduce defects, improve first-pass yield, and support root-cause and corrective actions (RCCA).\nPromote compliance with AS9100, ISO standards, and customer-specific requirements.\nQualifications: Minimum Preferred Qualifications, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following:\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.\n5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, ideally in machining, fabrication, or aerospace/semiconductor manufacturing.\n2+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams or technical groups.\nProficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred), ERP systems (M2M a plus), and engineering data management.\nStrong understanding of GD&T, machining processes, fabrication techniques, and process design.\nDemonstrated success driving CI/Lean initiatives within an industrial environment.\nExceptional communication, leadership, and project management skills.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential physical requirements pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following:\nStrength — (Light)- Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
