PSI is here to help you grow professionally and keep your career moving forward.Who You ArePrecision Systems is seeking to hire a Construction Inspector with knowledge and experience of construction standards and practices. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience performing construction inspection within Virginia that may include work for VDOT. The Construction Inspector will inspect all phases of highway construction and maintenance projects under the general supervision of senior or supervisory staff, ensuring construction quality in accordance with plans and specifications and providing a quality transportation system for the traveling public.Responsibilities:To monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction/maintenance projects of routine to moderate complexity, under the direction of a Construction Manager or designee on VDOT projectsInspects and monitors contractual field work which includes excavations, drainage facilities, road surfaces, and structuresObserves and documents Contractor's daily production ratesSchedules work and inspection phases with Contractor's superintendent and agency personnelObserves, documents and communicates with Contractor's regarding completion of all elements of project work to include identifying non-compliant workTakes field measurements of pay itemsReviews placement of and performs tests on construction materialsReviews lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using standard survey and field engineering equipmentOversees and enforces the installation of erosion/siltation controls and highways work zones and traffic control devicesRecommends changes to construction plans to meet field conditions or provide project cost savingsMaintains project records; including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, pay quantity records, and monthly estimatesQualifications:The Construction Inspector is expected to have a minimum of three years of highway construction inspection experience as well as working knowledge of:Experience with roadway, structure, and bridge construction/maintenance/repair/rehabilitation methods, materials, standards and specificationsKnowledge of VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, Inspector Manual, and Manual for Uniform Traffic Control DevicesVDOT Certifications related to asphalt, concrete, pavement, inspection or other areas requiredKnowledge of Construction plans, symbols, and terminologyState and federal environmental, safety, and Equal Employment Opportunity guidelines and regulationsUse of the Department's contract management softwareMaintains a good driving recordOffers flexibility in working day or night as project requireIs able to lift at least 50 poundsThe Construction Inspector is expected to have the ability to:Functional computer usage including familiarity with Microsoft office suite software and all construction management software systems used by the DepartmentRead and interpret roadway, structure and bridge plans and specificationApply mathematical formulas and field management principles to determine minor field adjustmentsMaintain detailed recordsPerform and document required materials testingCommunicate with the agency and contractor personnel and the general publicIt is anticipated that the Department will require Construction Inspector positions with various combinations of certifications throughout the life of this contract.
