The 1st Assistant serves as the Superintendent's primary support and assumes leadership responsibilities in their absence.\n\nReports To\nGolf Course Maintenance Technicians, Equipment Operators, and other maintenance personnel as assigned.\n\nAssist in the daily management and maintenance of golf course turf, landscapes, irrigation systems, and related facilities.\n\nSupervise, train, and develop Golf Course Maintenance team members.\n\nCoordinate daily work assignments and monitor productivity, quality, and efficiency.\n\nAssist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and course setup.\n\nAssist with fertilizer and pesticide applications in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.\n\nMonitor turf conditions and make recommendations regarding cultural practices, pest management, and course conditioning.\n\nAssist in irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, repairs, and water management programs.\n\nAssist in the supervision and maintenance of irrigation, drainage, pumping, and water management systems.\n\nInstruct and train equipment operators on the safe operation and care of golf course equipment.\n\nMaintain accurate records of pesticide applications, fertilizer usage, equipment maintenance, and labor hours.\n\nEnsure compliance with all safety policies, environmental regulations, and club standards.\n\nAssist with budget preparation, inventory management, and purchasing of supplies and materials.\n\nMonitor labor, equipment, and material costs to help ensure operations remain within budget.\n\nAssist in employee performance management, safety training, coaching, and development.\n\nAssist with tournament preparation, club events, and special projects.\n\nModify daily work schedules and priorities based on course conditions, weather, and operational needs.\n\nServe as acting Superintendent during absences or as assigned.\n\nPromote a positive, professional work environment through effective communication and leadership.\n\nQualifications\n\nAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred.\n\nMinimum of 3–5 years of progressive golf course maintenance experience, preferably at a private club or high-end golf facility.\n\nPrevious supervisory or leadership experience preferred.\n\nFlorida warm-season turf experience preferred, including Bermudagrass and Zoysiagrass.\n\nExperience with irrigation management and water conservation practices preferred.\n\nFlorida Restricted Use Pesticide License or ability to obtain within six months of employment.\n\nStrong working knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, including turfgrass management, irrigation systems, drainage systems, fertilizers, pesticides, and integrated pest management.\n\nAbility to effectively schedule and supervise maintenance activities to maximize labor and equipment efficiency.\n\nAbility to communicate effectively with employees, management, and club leadership.\n\nAbility to communicate in English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole is a plus.\n\nStrong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.\n\nProficiency with Microsoft Office and golf course management software preferred.\n\nValid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.\n\nPhysical Requirements\n\nAbility to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical labor for extended periods.\n\nAbility to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and direct sunlight.Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary.\nWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works outdoors and is exposed to varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and direct sunlight.
