MEP Superintendent
Job Description
Location: Norfolk, VAPosition Summary The MEP Superintendent (Mechanical & Plumbing Focus) is responsible for the field execution, coordination, and quality of all mechanical and plumbing systems on large-scale gaming and hospitality projects. This role leads subcontractor performance, ensures installations align with project documents and sequencing, and drives schedule, safety, and quality outcomes. The position requires strong knowledge of HVAC, hydronic systems, and plumbing infrastructure, with the ability to manage complex, fast-paced environments including casinos, hotels, back-of-house operations, and amenity spaces.Key Responsibilities Field Execution & OversightLead day-to-day field operations for mechanical and plumbing scopesCoordinate installation of:HVAC systems (central plants, AHUs, VAVs, exhaust, kitchen ventilation)Hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water, condenser water)Domestic water, sanitary, storm, and gas systemsSpecialty systems (commercial kitchens, laundry, pools/spa, grease waste)Ensure all work is installed per drawings, specifications, and code requirementsTrade CoordinationCoordinate mechanical and plumbing subcontractors with:Electrical and controls tradesStructural and architectural scopesIdentify and resolve field conflicts proactivelyEnforce adherence to coordinated drawings and approved shop drawingsParticipate in and lead MEP coordination and pull planning meetingsSchedule & SequencingDevelop and manage lookahead schedules (3-week / 6-week)Sequence work to support:Vertical constructionFinish tradesOwner turnover milestonesIdentify risks to schedule and implement recovery plansQuality ControlInspect installations to ensure compliance with:Contract documentsManufacturer requirementsProject quality standardsVerify system completeness prior to testing and turnoverSupport pre-functional checklists and deficiency resolutionCommissioning & Turnover SupportCoordinate with commissioning team to support:System startupFunctional testingOwner demonstrationsEnsure systems are installation-complete and ready for testingTrack and close out deficiencies and punchlist itemsSafety LeadershipEnforce jobsite safety requirements and company policiesLead by example in promoting a strong safety cultureCoordinate safe work planning for complex mechanical installationsQualifications 7+ years of construction experience with strong focus on mechanical and plumbing systemsPrior experience as Superintendent, Foreman, or lead field role on large commercial projectsExperience in hospitality, gaming, healthcare, or large commercial projects preferredStrong working knowledge of:HVAC systems and air distributionHydronic systems and central plantsPlumbing systems (domestic, sanitary, storm, gas)Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and shop drawingsSkills & Competencies Strong field leadership and subcontractor managementDeep understanding of installation sequencing and constructabilityAbility to identify and resolve field conflicts quicklyEffective communication with field teams, PMs, and design partnersHigh attention to detail and commitment to qualityAbility to manage multiple scopes in a fast-paced environmentRole Expectations Operates with a high level of independence in managing assigned scopesLeads mechanical and plumbing execution from rough-in through turnoverServes as the field authority on MEP installation quality and sequencingPartners closely with Project Management and MEP coordination teamsProject Types Casinos and gaming facilitiesHotels and resortsMixed-use hospitality developments
