Platform Engineer - Global POS

Our client, a large-scale global retail organization headquartered in the greater Seattle area, is looking for a Platform Engineer. This role sits within the Point of Sale (POS) Solutions team and focuses on the engineering, administration, and strategic planning of enterprise-grade POS environments supporting domestic and international operations. Location: Issaquah, WA - Onsite Compensation: The annual base salary range for this role is $85,000 - $225,000, depending on experience. Additional Compensation: This role may also be eligible for discretionary bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) equity compensation at senior and staff levels. Overview: The Platform Engineer will serve as a senior technical contributor and team leader within a large, high-volume POS environment, translating high-level platform designs into low-level technical implementations. This individual will be responsible for deploying, administering, supporting, and continuously improving POS platform infrastructure across a highly distributed, enterprise-scale environment. The role requires close collaboration with architects, delivery teams, project managers, and business stakeholders to ensure platforms meet both functional requirements and compliance standards. Summary: This is a hands-on engineering role with meaningful leadership responsibilities, including mentorship, code and design reviews, root cause analysis, and vendor engagement. Key Responsibilities: - Collaborate with delivery teams and architects to improve production deployments, platform operations, and environment stability - Translate high-level platform design into low-level technical design and execute updates in alignment with defined SLAs - Manage ongoing platform operations including monitoring, patching, and support - Lead and participate in code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging activities - Conduct regular platform health assessments and communicate inefficiencies to business and technology stakeholders - Develop and document environment topologies, standards, and architecture content - Identify and implement automation and process improvement opportunities - Implement and maintain enterprise-class POS solutions supporting integration services across distributed environments - Design tooling to simplify provisioning and support of large-scale distributed POS environments - Plan and execute major platform software and operating system upgrades across virtualized or cloud environments - Ensure architecture alignment with organizational standards, goals, and objectives - Address compliance requirements including PCI, HIPAA, PII, and SOX - Escalate complex issues as needed, lead root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures - Collaborate with infrastructure, security, compliance, and vendor teams to deliver quality solutions - Analyze technical risks and advise on appropriate mitigation strategies - Support project planning activities including scheduling, resource planning, and cost estimation Qualifications: - 10+ years of experience analyzing, designing, integrating, and implementing enterprise POS solutions - Demonstrated experience developing and configuring Windows Server, Toshiba 4690 OS, Toshiba SurePOS ACE, IBM Data Integration Facility, IBM Store Integrator, Toshiba ELERA, and Linux systems in high-availability, high-volume environments - Strong proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or JavaScript - Solid understanding of systems analysis, logic diagramming, test debugging, systems implementation, and documentation standards - Experience with enterprise compliance frameworks including PCI, HIPAA, and SOX - Excellent technical leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide team members - Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop integration patterns and articulate technical trade-offs to both technical and business audiences - Proven ability to work independently and produce consistent results with minimal supervision - Ability to thrive under pressure and manage crisis situations professionally - Adaptability in a rapidly changing environment with shifting priorities - Scheduling flexibility to support a 24x7x365 environment, including on-call and on-site availability as required Nice to Have: - Knowledge of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Software as a Service (SaaS) concepts - Experience implementing solutions in Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform - Proficiency in Google Workspace applications (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Gmail) About Hansell Tierney: Hansell Tierney is one of the premier staffing and recruiting companies in the Pacific Northwest.
