SUMMARY:
This position is accountable for all aspects of the daily operation and mill staff supervision for the Syracuse Feed Mill.
TASKS:
Meet production schedules and ensure feed production in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and quality specifications. Position reports to the Corporate Feed Mill Manager.
Supervise, instruct and discipline subordinate production staff in their roles.
Responsible for staff records, cross training across all operation activities, leading safety and biosecurity efforts with mill personnel.
Assist with general maintenance and oversee maintenance activities that involve specialized work with outside services.
Communicate feed production schedules to the existing Ingredient Purchasing Manager and mill staff.
Provide weekly and monthly reports regarding production performance, equipment operations and staff performance to the Corporate Feed Mill Manager.
Work with feed lab on ingredient and feed analysis results and corrective actions needed.
Adhere to budgetary constraints and negotiate best rates with contractors and vendors.
Hold regular staff production and safety meetings as required ensuring key results factors are reviewed and communicated to the staff.
Collect and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets and make available to required personnel.
Assist with front desk duties in the absence of the Feed Mill Clerk.
Perform related duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Requires knowledge of spreadsheet design and operation. Ability to learn basic accounting skills and operationally utilize AS400. Experience in feed milling operations is helpful.
SKILLS/ABILITIES and REQUIREMENTS:
Strong interpersonal skills to manage situations and communicate with management levels inside and outside of the company.
Ability to collect, assemble, sort, analyze and interpret data for the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
Ability to clearly communicate the results of the assembled data and schedule delivery trucks as needed.
Ability to demonstrate essential skills across all milling positions and provide training to staff of those duties.
Knowledge and skills identified through the completion of a high school education, formal mill operations training (i.e. Kansas State short course or degree), demonstrated experience or knowledge of feed milling operation. Computer skills in the use of spreadsheets and databases are helpful.
WORK CLIMATE: Work climate consists of climbing to high levels, bending, high noise levels, vibration, heavy dust, confined spaces and lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
