Your role will be to not only help these kids learn all about computer programming through our curriculum, but also to ensure their safety while they are with us. As an assistant instructor, you will work closely with the lead instructor. Your work will be to facilitate student engagement – scaling up or down based on the individual student interest and skill levels. You’ll also help with classroom management.\nYou’ll be responsible for guiding groups of K-12 students by working one on one with students as they learn. Create an inclusive atmosphere where every student is respected and appreciated for their own talents and individuality.\nKEY SKILLS:\nTeaching experience: Experience with and interest in working with kids in education, childhood development or other educational environments.\nExperience with computer programming languages (block-based and text-based) required.\nExperience teaching/leading school-aged children in hands-on activities and youth supervisory experience preferred.\nExperience working with diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds.\nExcellent oral and written communication skills.\nStrong organizational and time management skills.\nFirst aid/CPR certified or willing to be certified.\nPREFERRED EXPERIENCE:\nAbility to direct a large group of students\nCommitment to building a safe, student-focused community\nPositive, inclusive attitude towards both students and their families\nHigh energy and passionate about technology and kids\nAbility to provide leadership and energy, constantly assessing group dynamics and the needs of individual students\nExcellent problem solving skills and professional demeanor when faced with challenges\nDemonstrated professionalism, ethics and accountability.\nReliable transportation and willingness to commute to various San Antonio area locations\nMust pass a Criminal Background Check and Child Protection Training prior to employment.\nAbility to lift at least 20 lbs. (when camps are in-person)\nAbility to complete other duties, as assigned.\nHOURS:\n10-15 hours a week, M-F, with occasional weekend opportunities.\nYouth Code Jam regular office hours are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. During the school year clubs and camps typically run before and after school hours, September through May, and all day during the summer hours, June through August.
