Middle School English Teacher

Role And PurposeThe Middle School English Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality English instruction for students in Grades 5–8. The teacher will engage students in developing critical thinking skills, foster a passion for literature, refine effective writing skills, and prepare students for academic success in Middle School English courses. The role involves designing lesson plans, assessing student progress, and creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the school’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as requiredImplement relevant and authentic pedagogical strategies, while being mindful of diverse learning styles. Appropriately incorporate technology to enhance student learningKeep abreast of current educational research, trends, and best practices to facilitate and guide goal setting, reflection, and professional developmentHelp students analyze and improve study methods and habitsProvide formative and summative assessments, offering clear and personalized feedback to support student progressCreate a classroom environment conducive to learning and is appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of studentsManage student behavior in accordance with student handbookEstablish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administration, and teachersMaintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community membersEngage actively with the Oakridge community by participating in events, providing support to students, and promoting the school positively in all communicationsOther duties as assigned by the Division HeadMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s DegreeThree years of successful teaching English in a Middle School settingMust pass a criminal background check and have positive verification of referencesPreferred QualificationsProven ability to effectively teach and engage students across diverse skill levels,including on-level and Honors courses in reading and writing
