In this role, you’ll balance hands-on technical contributions with team leadership to build and support world-class scientific workflows. You’ll work across the full stack—empowering engineers and physicists to deploy software to support ongoing research and development efforts as well as helping to transform prototype software into robust and polished products. The quantum error correction team consists of a mix of mathematicians, experimental and theoretical physicists, and software engineers and this role requires interfacing across a range of backgrounds and skillsets. This role reports to the Director of Quantum Error Correction.\n\nThis role is required to be in the office in Berkeley at least 3 days per week.\n\nJob Responsibilities\nLead and mentor a team of approximately 5 software engineers and quantum software engineers.\nSupport the development of research-oriented software and associated workflows.\nWork with physicists and mathematicians to develop production-grade software required for running fault-tolerant quantum computing.\nWork closely with Atom Computing’s quantum error correction team to understand use cases and deliver software and developer experiences that address the needs of the team.\nExperience & Education\nBS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or related field, PhD is a plus.\nExperience leading a small engineering team.\n5+ years of post-degree experience as a software engineer.\nQualifications\nProven track record leading teams to develop and deliver complex software\nStrong background in software development, including experience with research-oriented scientific software\nA high tolerance for uncertainty and ambiguity\nCollaborative mindset and experience working on a multidisciplinary team\nExperience with quantum computing and quantum error correction are preferred\n\nAtom Computing provides a wide variety of perks and benefits, including fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for our employees and their dependents.
