PT Staff Dentist
PT Staff Dentist The purpose of this position is to provide clinical instruction and supervision to students enrolled in the Dental Hygiene Program in the School of Health Professions at Virginia Western Community College. The Staff Dentist primarily focuses instruction and supervision in the areas of local anesthesia and radiographs. Required Qualifications: Current Virginia license to practice as a dentist. A Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD). Current DEA Certification. Current BLS/CPR Certification. Up to date continuing educational compliance. Two years of clinical experience. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds. On time attendance to Dental Hygiene Clinic. On time submission of all required documentation. Ability to plan and organize patient care assignments for program placed students according to student level. Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team. Ability to facilitate student learning experiences to ensure mastery of stated objectives. Ability to evaluate student learning as described on clinical evaluation tool. Ability to adhere to all regulatory requirements for student supervision. Ability to function in the role as a licensed health professional and health professional educator. Ability to model positive culture of a healthcare professional. Ability to work with a wide variety of learners and adapt instruction and communication patterns to meet the needs of diverse learners. Ability to meet the physical demands of clinical shift schedule. Proficiency with all fundamental program-specific skills and equipment, including but not limited to skills represented on student skills list. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and patient information. Additional Considerations: Prior teaching experience, preferable in a college setting. Experience using electronic dental records and classroom technology.
