This role requires extensive, progressive experience and the application of advanced engineering principles, analysis, and judgment. The position operates under general supervision and plays a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions that meet client, schedule, and budget expectations.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nApply and adhere to departmental design, drafting standards, and best engineering practices.\n\nReview and understand project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment.\n\nDevelop conceptual layouts, alternatives, and cost studies to determine the most efficient and constructible design solutions.\n\nPrepare estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs aligned with project estimating requirements.\n\nPerform detailed structural design calculations and prepare clear, well-organized sketches to support internal review, drafting, and final deliverables.\n\nDesign structures with efficient material utilization, constructability, and client expectations in mind.\n\nReview and check calculations prepared by other engineers to ensure accuracy, code compliance, and adherence to project standards.\n\nCollaborate with drafting personnel to resolve layout and detailing issues, providing sketches and technical guidance as needed.\n\nCoordinate closely with engineers from other disciplines to ensure seamless information flow and on-schedule project execution.\n\nCommunicate design issues or scope changes to senior engineering leadership in a timely manner.\n\nSupport development of complete civil/structural work packages, including scopes, drawings, and specifications for procurement and subcontracting.\n\nReview vendor documents, fabrication drawings, and interdisciplinary drawings for civil/structural compliance.\n\nDevelop and review construction specifications and engineering deliverables.\n\nProvide construction support, including field investigations, tie‑in verification, and response to contractor inquiries.\n\nMentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.\n\nLead small to large civil/structural teams, maintaining focus on scope, schedule, budget, and quality.\n\nIdentify and implement work‑sharing strategies for interoffice execution and provide leadership to ensure successful collaboration.\n\nEstimate, schedule, and monitor professional service hours and assess progress and quality of civil/structural work.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\nEducation\n\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university\n\nStructural engineering coursework required\n\nLicensure\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) registration is highly preferred\n\nExperience\n\nMinimum of 6+ years of relevant industrial civil/structural engineering experience\n\nRequired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities\n\nStrong working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and applicable standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.)\n\nProficiency in structural analysis and design software, including interpretation of results\n\nSolid understanding of engineering practices related to industrial, process, and manufacturing facilities\n\nDemonstrated ability to lead engineering teams and deliver projects successfully\n\nEffective presentation and client‑facing communication skills\n\nWorking knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or both)\n\nProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook\n\nStrong verbal and written communication skills\n\nExperience working with virtual teams and providing interoffice execution leadership\n\nPhysical Requirements\n\nAbility to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods as required by project and field activities\n\nCompensation & Benefits\nThis role offers a highly competitive compensation package, including:\n\nPaid time off\n\nComprehensive health insurance benefits\n\nMatching retirement contributions\n\nLocations & Work Flexibility\n\nPrimary location: Atlanta, GA\n\nAdditional office options: TX, LA, AL, SC, PA\n\nHybrid or interoffice execution support may be available\n\nRelocation assistance may be offered based on role and location\n\nHargrove Culture\nWe work to create an environment founded on trust, personal integrity, and a \"team mentality\" so that each person understands the value of their contributions both on a project and company-wide level.
