WC BILLING CLERK
SUMMARY
Performs general clerical duties including the following: Analyze and interpret abnormal meter reading reports for errors and make corrections as needed. Creates and processes read reports for billing. Generates meter reading and billing schedule each month to distribute to meter reading supervisor and collection office employees. Runs all reports for all controls for billing personnel to help process for billing. Oversees the process of bills mailed out to customers i.e water and electric. Generates reread orders for electric and water customers for billing and customer requests for re-reads. Responds to customer complaints, inquiries and provides advice and assistance on high electric and water bills due to possible errors in billing and re-reads. Creates orders, enters electric and water meter change orders. Assist with data entry on power routes. Billing adjustments, corrections, over/under reads on meters. Voids and rebills making adjustment vouchers on manual adjustments. Billing Clerk will be responsible for compiling and saving all processed data reports for billing and auditing purposes. Will be responsible for adding late notice fees and penalties on delinquent accounts. Must be able to learn the current electric and water data receiving system. Assure all daily alerts reports are reviewed with appropriate personnel and customer alerted as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs general clerical duties.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
Preferably, a Degree in Business Administration or at least two years community college or college level accounting or business courses or work experience with the billing department of at least 2 years.
Minimum of 2 years work experience in accounts receivable demonstrating increased responsibility.
Minimum of 2 years in customer service involving handling customer complaints and explaining policy.
JOB SKILLS
Must have considerable knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures and excellent knowledge of best practices office practices/procedures and some knowledge of clerical principles and practices in purchasing;
Must have considerable knowledge of the preparation and presentation of reports containing financial information and data and experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports;
Must have knowledge and skill in MS office software-Word, Excel, Outlook, basic accounting;
Must have proven skills in conflict resolution, resilience, handling complaints.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, draw conclusions and prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations.
Must perform all duties in our billing department to ensure the billing process is completed daily.
Ability to communicate and deal with public and co-workers in a professional and positive manner;
Ability to handle customer complaints skillfully and respectfully;
Ability to work and deal with wide range of individuals, dealing with situations in which the individual may be upset over some issue involved with the utility billing department;
Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions in a team environment as a team player;
Integrity, in the performance of assigned tasks;
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
Valid driver's license from the State of Mississippi
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, use hands, stoop, kneel or reach with hands and arms. On various occasions, employee will be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision required by this job includes close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust to focus;
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee works in an office environment primarily constantly receiving work orders from customers and customer inquiries. This environment on occasion becomes very frenzied and stressful. Local travel to and from the collections office and city hall and other offices is sometimes required daily.
