Financial Controller
Casella Construction is seeking to hire a Financial Controller to join our Finance and Accounting Team in Pittsford, Vermont. The Financial Controller is a senior-level leader responsible for overseeing Casella Construction’s day-to-day accounting and financial operations. The Financial Controller ensures the accuracy of all financial transactions and reports and manages internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets. Serving as the lead accountant and financial steward, the Financial Controller ensures the integrity and accuracy of financial records and reporting.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, possess deep expertise in accounting principles, and have a proven track record of managing financial systems and high-performing teams.
Responsibilities:
Lead, direct, and manage all day-to-day accounting functions – Accounts Payable, Payroll, Credit & Collections, Debt, Fixed Assets, and General Ledger
Direct all activities related to the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing cycle
Ensure the timeliness of all financial reporting requirements by instituting processes that enable the staff to meet pre-defined review dates
Ensure compliance with GAAP, GAAS, and ASC promulgations
Lead and direct annual external CPA firm audit as the main point of contact for the firm
Collaborate with department leaders to support the annual budgeting process
Advise divisional and departmental leaders on current financial data and data trends
Champion Casella Construction’s culture and values in all financial practices
Provide strategic support to the CFO as needed
Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
Lead and mentor the finance and accounting team of 4 direct reports, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability
Training requirements, both in person and online, as needed or required
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required); Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and finance
At least 3 years of experience managing a team
Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of transactions
3 years of experience as the lead in the annual external audit and annual budget process
Proven expertise in financial reporting and analysis
Collaborate and advise senior managers and leaders to make well-informed company-wide financial and operational decisions
Effective communicator across all levels of the company
Effective collaborator able to work with all company functions
Proficient with the use of IT systems and tools
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Strong working knowledge of PowerBI and PowerQuery
Reaches and exhibits the highest levels of quality, accuracy, timeliness
High attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness in financial output
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Experience in construction industry finance and accounting
Prior experience at a CPA firm, ideally with exposure to audit and advisory services for construction or related industries
Hands-on experience with construction-focused ERP systems
Demonstrated proficiency in Power BI, Power Query, and other data visualization tools to support financial analysis and operational insights
Experience contributing to long-term financial planning, risk management, and strategic decision-making in a growing organization

Hiring Range: $112,000/yr. - $135,000/yr
This range reflects the base pay we reasonably expect to offer for this position at the time of posting, considering current market conditions and industry benchmarks.
Final and individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
