Senior Packaging Engineer
Position: Senior Packaging Engineering Leader Location: Bolingbrook, IL 60440 onsite dailyI am looking for a Sr Packaging engineer to build the Packaging Function. Drive Innovation and Influence Product Launches. in this role you will be leading and building the packaging engineering function supporting innovative beauty and consumer products.This is not a maintenance-type packaging role.The ideal candidate is someone who can own packaging strategy, commercialization, supplier partnerships, packaging innovation, sustainability initiatives, and manufacturing support — while helping establish best practices and scalable packaging engineering processes across the organization.If you’ve worked in cosmetics, beauty, skincare, personal care, or highly aesthetic CPG products and enjoy taking ownership, influencing decisions, and building structure within a growing environment, this is the type of opportunity where you can make a major impact.What You’ll Be DoingLead the development and commercialization of primary and secondary packaging for cosmetic and personal care productsDrive packaging innovation initiatives involving bottles, pumps, jars, tubes, closures, labels, cartons, and sustainable materialsPartner closely with Product Development, Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and external packaging suppliersBuild packaging engineering processes, standards, specifications, and documentation systemsEvaluate packaging feasibility, manufacturability, line compatibility, and supplier capabilitiesSupport packaging testing including compatibility, transportation, leakage, compression, stability, and line trialsLead packaging issue resolution tied to filling lines, manufacturing, and distributionDrive sustainability, cost-reduction, and packaging optimization initiativesSupport supplier qualification and development, including overseas suppliers and packaging manufacturersInfluence packaging strategy from concept through production launchQUALIFICATIONS7–15+ years of packaging engineering or packaging development experienceBackground within cosmetics, beauty, skincare, personal care, or consumer packaged goods (CPG)Strong experience supporting packaging commercialization and manufacturing environmentsKnowledge of packaging materials including plastics, glass, aluminum, labels, paperboard, pumps, and closuresExperience working with packaging suppliers and contract manufacturersFamiliarity with packaging testing standards and manufacturing line supportCAD experience (SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD, or similar)Strong leadership, communication, and project ownership capabilitiesOverview: Sterling Engineering / Staffing has a rich history of delivering top talent to our clients.
