Position: Special Education Paraeducator - Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)Work Schedule: M-Th 9:15am-12:15pmStart Date: ASAPPay: $23.14 per hourBenefits: Benefits are in accordance with the labor agreement covering Paraeducators - https://www.isd622.org/about/human-resourcesSummaryUnder the supervision of a licensed instructor, the Early Childhood Special Education Paraeducator facilitates the educational progress of students by providing, support, and guidance to students in various academic, personal, and vocational subject matters in the structured programs.Required QualificationsA high school diploma or GED and one of the following:An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, orTwo years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelors degree, orPassing score on ParaEducator test. (For more information on the ParaPro Assessment, contact Educational Testing Service at 1-800-772-9476 or www.ets.org/parapro)Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and restrain students in emergency situations (in accordance with approved techniques, training will be provided)Strong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to maintain confidentialityCompletion of any required training necessary for the position.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree or equivalent (preferably in Education)Education assistant/paraprofessional or teaching experienceExperience working with individuals with disabilitiesExperience and/or training in behavior managementResponsibilitiesAssist in the instruction of students by providing support and practical training to students in various subject mattersProvide assistance to the teacher by performing such duties as:Implementing instructional plans and assisting with the adaptation/modification of the curriculum as directed by the teacherPreparing class schedulesOrganizing learning materialsAssisting with classroom activitiesAssist educational staff in performing duties to meet the specific needs of students including, but not limited to:Redirecting inappropriate behaviors of students in classroomsPreparing food for and/or feeding studentsAssisting in the physical movement of studentsDiapering and toileting studentsSupervising students during bus loading and unloadingMonitoring student safety at all times through active supervisionPromote a safe and productive learning environment for students, ensuring that student needs are met by communicating with other staff about student needsMonitor and document the educational progress of students by performing evaluations of student progress and needsRecord data pertaining to Individual Educational Plans (IEPs)Maintain confidentiality regarding students and the educational setting at all timesOther related duties as assignedMay be regularly required to walk throughout a building and may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or push up to 90 pounds, and must be able to restrain students with proper training and assistance when needed, and may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.Independent School District No, 622, North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale, does not discriminated on the basis of sex and prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity.ISD 622 is an equal opportunity employer and supports an inclusive workplace environment.
