The successful candidate will support the design, analysis, and documentation of structural systems for a variety of building and infrastructure projects. This position is ideal for an engineer who is looking to develop their technical expertise, gain project experience, and work collaboratively with experienced structural engineers, architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nAssist with the analysis and design of structural systems including steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.\nPrepare structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.\nDevelop and review structural models using engineering software.\nPerform structural evaluations, inspections, and field investigations as required.\nAssist with the preparation of construction documents and respond to contractor requests for information (RFIs).\nCoordinate structural designs with architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and other disciplines.\nReview shop drawings, submittals, and structural details for compliance with project requirements.\nParticipate in project meetings and communicate technical information effectively with clients, contractors, and project teams.\nConduct site visits to observe existing conditions and construction progress.\nApply applicable building codes, standards, and design criteria to engineering work.\nAssist senior engineers and project managers with project planning, scheduling, and coordination.\nMaintain accurate project documentation and ensure work meets established quality standards.\nSupport continuous improvement of engineering processes, design standards, and technical procedures.\n\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.\n0–5 years of structural engineering experience; relevant internship or co-op experience is a plus.\nEIT certification is required.\nFamiliarity with structural engineering principles, analysis methods, and applicable building codes.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with structural engineering software such as RISA, RAM, ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD, or similar software is preferred.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with structural design of commercial, industrial, residential, institutional, or infrastructure projects.\nFamiliarity with ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, IBC, NDS, and other applicable structural design standards.\nPrevious experience preparing structural calculations and construction documents.\nExperience with BIM and Revit-based structural design.\nProgress toward obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) license.\n\nAbout Thompson Engineering\n\nFounded in 1953, Thompson Engineering provides quality assurance and professional services for construction projects supporting industrial, infrastructure, and community development.
