Primary responsibilities include working as a key project team member on bridge and structural project from the preliminary phase through design and construction. A Structural-Bridge Engineer shall be capable of independently and collaboratively contributing to the design and development of structural project plans and specifications, while working with other team members. This person will report to Apex’s Lead Structural Bridge Engineer. The candidate will be expected to attend in person, key client, and project related meetings.\n\nEssential Tasks and Duties:\n\nIndependently perform bridge engineering related calculations, analysis, and design tasks.\nIndependently write technical specifications, reports, and other correspondence to a variety of audiences.\nIndependently assemble plans for different agencies, as required to meet standards.\nPerform independent checking of the design work of other team members.\nEfficiently work with technicians to assemble complete and accurate engineering plans.\nWork efficiently to meet deadlines and complete projects within a given amount of time.\nEmploy a variety of design standards related to the bridge industry.\nAssist with technical proposals for project pursuits with project managers and market leaders.\nEffective communication skills will be required in settings such as project meetings, informational meetings, construction notifications, etc.\nThis position will require the initiative to think independently and make rational judgment calls.\nUnderstand and follow company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.\nPerform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail.\nMust be able to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team environment.\nParticipate in professional organizations and community leadership programs, as developed with supervisor.\nTravel and out of town stays may be required; may work overtime especially during deadlines for submittals.\nOther duties as assigned.\nQualification Requirements:\nA Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, structural), with 2+ years of bridge engineering experience.\nThe ability to become a licensed engineer to practice structural engineering specifically to bridge design in the state of primary practice within two years of hire is preferred.\nExperience with transportation projects and public agencies located in Minnesota and North Dakota is preferred.\nExperience with in-service bridge inspection would be considered a bonus.\nProficient using Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills required.\nMust be detail orientated, self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.\nA valid driver’s license is required or the ability to obtain one.\n Physical Requirements:\nAbility to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.\nRequired to regularly work in an outdoors environment.\nRequired to lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.\nMay require prolonged periods of standing and walking to perform some of the essential tasks and duties.\nMust be able to work required hours in the office or offsite.\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
