Job Description Small Engine Repair TechnicianThe role of the Small Engine Repair Technician is to maintain a wide range of rental and customer equipment powered by small gasoline two-stroke and four-stroke engines. The technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing equipment, identifying the need for repairs or replacements, providing information on proper equipment usage, and supporting other skilled trades as needed. This position reports directly to the Shop Foreman.Essential FunctionsPerform cleaning, repairs, and preventive maintenance on various motorized equipment (e.g., saws, generators, tampers, handheld tools) to ensure safe and correct operation.Diagnose and repair issues in a broad spectrum of equipment, identifying the need for repairs or replacements.Conduct routine and preventive maintenance to ensure the ongoing functionality of essential tools and equipment.Maintain tools and equipment to ensure they are in safe operating condition and readily available.Provide information to personnel regarding procedures and work order status to facilitate decision-making, appropriate actions, and compliance with health and safety regulations.Assist other trades personnel as needed to support the completion of their work activities.Coordinate with administration and other trades to efficiently complete projects and work orders.Request equipment parts and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure the availability of necessary items for installations and repairs.Other FunctionsPerform additional duties as assigned to contribute to an efficient and effective work environment.Job Requirements: Minimum QualificationsSkills: Ability to perform technical tasks with ongoing skill upgrades to adapt to changing job conditions. Proficiency in operating tools used in the repair and maintenance of motorized equipment. Competence in planning and managing projects, as well as preparing and maintaining accurate records.Knowledge: Proficient in basic mathematics, reading various manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, and presenting information. Skilled in diagnosing gasoline, diesel, and electrically powered equipment, as well as hydraulic systems and wiring schematics. Understanding of design and maintenance standards, including the operation of diesel burners, pressure washing equipment, and diesel/gas generators.Responsibility: Operate under limited supervision, utilizing standardized practices and methods while providing information and advice to others. May require resources from other work units to perform job functions.Working Environment The position requires significant physical demands, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.Education/Experience A combination of education equivalent to a high school diploma, supplemented by an approved apprenticeship program in small engine repair, and three years of experience in mechanical maintenance and overhauling of grounds equipment and small gasoline and electric-powered engines and equipment.Compensation Pay is based on experience.Company DescriptionHawkins-Graves is your Mid-Atlantic construction equipment dealer!
