This position involves performing field inspections of highway bridges and related structures, documenting structural conditions, and preparing inspection reports that are incorporated into CTDOT's bridge management system.\r\nResponsibilitiesPerform routine, in-depth, special, and damage bridge inspections in accordance with:\r\nFHWA National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS)\r\nCTDOT Bridge Inspection Manual\r\nInspect and document condition of bridge components, including:\r\nDecks, superstructures, substructures, bearings, joints, abutments, piers, and culverts\r\nIdentify, document, and rate structural deficiencies using NBIS condition rating criteria\r\nPrepare detailed inspection reports, field notes, sketches, and photographic documentation\r\nUtilize access equipment as required, including:\r\nUnder-bridge inspection units (snooper trucks)\r\nLifts, ladders, rope access, and confined space methods\r\nCoordinate inspection activities with:\r\nCTDOT Bridge Management & Inspection units\r\nTraffic control and maintenance forces\r\nEnsure compliance with jobsite safety requirements, including:\r\nTraffic control\r\nFall protection\r\nConfined space procedures\r\nSupport QA/QC reviews and participate in field reviews and meetings as required\r\nAssist with load rating data collection and structural assessments when applicable\r\nQualificationsEducation:\r\nBachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or\r\nAssociate degree in Engineering Technology with demonstrated bridge inspection experience\r\nExperience:\r\nMinimum 2 years of bridge inspection experience meeting FHWA NBIS qualification requirements\r\nRequired Certification:\r\nFHWA-approved NBIS Bridge Inspection Training\r\nPreferred / Project-Dependent Qualifications\r\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Connecticut or ability to obtain by reciprocity\r\nCompletion of FHWA-approved NHI Bridge Inspection Courses(e.g., NHI 130055 / NHI 130056)\r\nCTDOT-approved bridge inspection qualifications, as required\r\nExperience with AASHTOWare Bridge Management\r\nPrior experience on CTDOT bridge inspection contracts\r\nSafety & Technical Certifications (Preferred):\r\nOSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Safety\r\nFall Protection\r\nConfined Space Entry\r\nFirst Aid / CPR\r\nSkills & Additional Requirements:\r\nFamiliarity with CTDOT Bridge Inspection Manual and NBIS reporting procedures\r\nAbility to work at heights, over water, and in active traffic environments\r\nProficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic field data collection tools\r\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\r\nValid driver's license and ability to travel statewide within Connecticut\r\nPhysical & Work Environment Requirements:\r\nAbility to climb ladders, scaffolding, and bridge components\r\nAbility to lift inspection equipment and perform hands-on field inspections\r\nAbility to work outdoors in varied weather conditions\r\nWillingness to work nights, weekends, or off-hours as required by traffic conditions\r\nBenefitsM&J is a leader in providing quality engineering consulting services to a diverse and exciting client base.
