Lead Software Asset Manager

Job SummaryOur client is seeking a Lead Software Asset Manager to join their enterprise IT organization! This position is fully remote and aligned to Central Time hours. The role is focused on leading Software Asset Management (SAM) initiatives across the enterprise, helping optimize software licensing, reduce compliance risk, and improve operational efficiency through strong governance and process implementation.Core Responsibilities Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide Software Asset Management (SAM) strategies and best practicesLead software asset tracking initiatives and ensure accurate recording, reporting, and lifecycle management of technology assetsConstruct and optimize SAM-related business processes, governance models, and operational policiesMonitor software license usage, compliance terms, and contractual obligations while proactively identifying and remediating anomaliesDrive the integration of SAM processes within the existing ITSM framework and maximize the organization's ServiceNow investmentPartner cross-functionally with IT, procurement, operations, and leadership teams to improve software governance and visibilityDevelop and implement KPIs, reporting metrics, and tracking mechanisms to measure process effectiveness and operational efficiencyProvide reporting and strategic updates to digital and IT leadership regarding SAM initiatives, compliance posture, and optimization opportunitiesMaintain strong knowledge of enterprise business processes to recommend practical, scalable, and efficient asset management solutionsLead continuous improvement efforts related to software licensing controls, audits, reporting accuracy, and operational governanceRequired Skills/Experience (Must-Haves) 5+ years of experience in Software Asset Management (SAM), IT Asset Management (ITAM), or related enterprise IT operations rolesStrong understanding of software licensing models, compliance management, and software audit processesExperience developing and implementing enterprise SAM governance processes and operational frameworksHands-on experience working within ITSM environments and integrating SAM processes into enterprise workflowsStrong experience with ServiceNow, particularly within ITSM, ITAM, or SAM-related modulesExperience tracking and managing software licensing usage, renewals, compliance risks, and optimization opportunitiesStrong analytical, reporting, and process improvement skillsAbility to collaborate cross-functionally with technical teams, leadership, vendors, and business stakeholdersExcellent communication, documentation, and organizational skillsAbility to work independently while leading initiatives across large enterprise environmentsPreferred Skills/Experience (Nice-to-Haves) Experience leading enterprise-wide SAM transformation or optimization initiativesExperience with hardware asset management processes in addition to software asset managementExposure to vendor management, contract negotiations, or procurement processesExperience supporting software compliance audits and remediation activitiesKnowledge of enterprise governance, risk, and compliance practicesExperience developing dashboards, reporting metrics, or executive-level operational reportingExposure to ITIL methodologies or enterprise process frameworksExperience within large enterprise utility, energy, or Fortune 500 environmentsKey Competencies & Behaviors Software Asset Management LeadershipIT Governance & ComplianceServiceNow & ITSM IntegrationProcess Optimization & Operational EfficiencySoftware Licensing & Audit ManagementCross-Functional CollaborationStrategic Problem SolvingReporting & Metrics DevelopmentStrong Communication SkillsWork Environment RemoteCentral Time zoneCompensation & Benefits Pay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $42.00 and $61.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location.
