Position Type:Student Support Services/LD/BD Self-ContainedDate Posted:5/21/2026Location:Hamtramck Public SchoolsREPORTS TO: Director of Special Services and Building PrincipalSUMMARY:The Self-Contained Resource Program is a cross categorical classroom designation where the teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher will create and maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that supports students' academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional growth while collaborating with staff, families, and service providers.QUALIFICATIONS:State of Michigan Teacher CertificationOne or more of the following Special Education endorsements: SM (preferred), SE, SAExperience working with students with disabilities in a resource and/or self-contained setting preferred.Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, and compliance requirements.Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.Ability to differentiate instruction and implement evidence-based interventions.Experience with behavior management strategies and data collection preferred.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILIES:Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.Provide direct instruction in academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional skill areas based on student needs.Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.Utilize data-driven instruction and progress monitoring to support student achievement and growth.Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district special education requirements and timelines.Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, administrators, and families to support student success.Develop and implement positive behavior intervention strategies and classroom management systems.Supervise and direct paraprofessional staff within the classroom setting.Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports, service logs, evaluation data, and student records.Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary evaluations, professional development, and district initiatives.Foster positive relationships with students, families, and staff while promoting an inclusive and supportive school culture.Support students with activities of daily living and medical or safety needs as required by student IEPs and district procedures.Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the position.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ability to lift, assist, and support students as needed.Ability to move throughout the classroom and school environment.Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.SALARY: Per the HFT Teacher ContractAttachment(s):SPED Self-Contained Teacher 26-27
