The Superintendent is the first line supervisor of the operations management team and is responsible for the direction and supervision of union labor. The Superintendent is often the only member of management interacting with labor while working a ship and must represent the interests of SSA while supervising the union labor.\nEssential Responsibilities:\n\nSupervises personnel in proper operating procedures, and counsels, disciplines and/or makes termination decisions as needed to ensure an efficient operation while working within the restrictions of the labor agreement. The Superintendents termination decisions are subject to review by higher management.\nEnforces productivity levels by supervising workers in within the terminal operation and a follow up assessment prior to shift end.\nPlans, holds and documents daily safety meetings.\nResponsible for the compliance under HAZMAT and OSHA Regulations. This would include reporting any incidents to the supervisory immediately.\nEnsure that all required personnel are wearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety vest, safety toe boots, safety glasses and protective hard hat, when applicable.\nResponsible for investigation and reporting damages and liabilities to the appropriate management and authorities.\nComplete damage reports accurately and report & review any incidents and/or issues to appropriate Manager of the operation to understand risk analysis and liability.\nServes as a key coordinator between all parties, vessels, customers, agents and labor.\nOversees and ensures that all policies and procedures are being managed efficiently and effectively.\nVisually inspect areas for hazards and bring all inquiries to management.\nMay be required to verify all cargo is loaded/discharged efficiently and within regulations.\nWork with Dispatchers and/or Union halls to staff accordingly.\nPartner with management in hiring, discipline and documentation as well as termination process for employees.\nPerforms other related duties as required\nRequirements:\nQualifications:\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent work experience.\nAt least 3 years managing labor preferred.\nValid Driver's License and CPR certificate required\nExtensive rigging expertise, including load/stress and calculation skills.\nThorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations\nKnowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations\nKnowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired\nKnowledge of local unions dispatching rules.\nRequired to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal environment.\nTWIC card Required.\nSupervisory Responsibilities: Yes\n\nWork environment:\n\nMust be able to work in rotating shifts, days, evenings and nights.\nMust be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures of hot and cold, extremely dusty conditions and occasionally, conditions of high levels of noise.\nThe ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment\nThe ability to drive 10%\nWe are an Equal Opportunity Employer\n\nReq Benefits: Eligible employees (and their families) may qualify for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as having basic life and accidental death insurance, paid disability insurance, including paid parental leave if eligible, and an Employee Assistance Program.
