Salary: Depends on QualificationsLocation : Albemarle, NCJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 2000288Department: UtilitiesOpening Date: 02/11/2026Closing Date: ContinuousJob DescriptionWork in this classification involves operating wastewater treatment equipment, conducting periodic inspections of related apparatus, recording information read from gauges and mechanical recorders, and performing routine duties related to the general maintenance and cleaning of the physical properties of the wastewater treatment plant. Independent judgment is exercised within the scope of standard operational procedures.Examples of Job DutiesObserving the operations of machinery and apparatus during periodic rounds of plant to check the condition of flow of wastewater through various stages of treatment.Operating various purification equipment in the treatment plant.Collecting samples of sewage at specified intervals and stages of treatment for testing.Performing various lab tests.Preparing required reports.Maintaining grease pumps, washing clarifiers, washing bar screen, washing basins, and assisting other personnel in repairing pumps and related equipment and apparatus.Maintaining buildings and grounds including cleaning of equipment.Recording data pertinent to equipment operation and treatment processes.Functioning as the Operator Responsible in Charge for the wastewater treatment plant; submitting monthly reports for Utilities Manager signature.Responding to requests for information regarding the annual state inspection.Performs related work as requiredKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of the physical and mechanical processes of sewage treatment;Thorough knowledge of the functioning of sewage plant machinery and installations;Thorough knowledge of the operating policies;Thorough knowledge of mechanical repair activities relating to sewage plant operations;Ability to recognize faulty operations of equipment and improper reactions of sewage;Ability to perform minor manual and mechanical maintenance task, including the lubrication of machinery;Ability to maintain accurate records of equipment operation and make recordings relating to treatment processes;Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.QualificationsGraduation from an accredited high school with one or more courses in chemistry, and considerable experience in work associated with machinery, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Special Requirements:Hold level III certificate in wastewater treatment plant operation from the Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification Board.Work Against Status:If there are no levels of certificate in waste water treatment plant operation, employee will be put in a work against position until certifications are obtained.STANLY COUNTY BENEFITS (Full-time Employees)Employees accrue sick and vacation time each paycheck.Stanly County observes twelve (12) holidays. Our plan is a PPO, 80/20, with a $1000 deductible. Teledoc is offered through our insurance for a $10 co-pay per visit. Primary care visit is a $40 co-payment. Specialist is $50 co-pay. One free eye exam per year. The insurance coverage is FREE to full-time employees.Dental Coverage is with Guardian dental insurance and is FREE to full-time employees.Other volunteer insurance benefits include: Flexible Spending Program, Life Insurance, Cancer, Accident, and Disability policies.Stanly County offers an employee health clinic. Our on-site Advance Practice Provider will see employees and dependents covered on our county insurance plan free of charge. This service does not replace your primary healthcare providers but augments their care.As a wellness benefit, employees have the option of joining the Stanly County YMCA. The County will pay half of the employee's membership.Employee Assistant Program is offered through Atrium Health. Each employee will receive up to six (6) free sessions on a rolling year. Dependent children and/or spouse may also use the sessions.RETIREMENT:Stanly County Employees will be a member of the N. C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Stanly County is required to withhold six percent (6%) from each paycheck and deposit it into the retirement system. The County also contributes to the plan. You are vested at five years as a contributing member. After one year of contributing membership in the system, a death benefit is available if you die while still in active service or within 180 days of your last day of service.NC 401(k) (Supplemental Retirement Plan):Employees can contribute to the Empower 401(k) plan upon hire.
