Bus Driver PositionThe Gainesville City School System does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability in any of its employment practices, educational programs, services or activities.Work Location: Base-Bus ShopFLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports To: Director of TransportationWork Calendar: 182 DaysSalary Schedule: Approved (Board)Revised: April 2020Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation.Essential Functions:Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.Operates school bus under all types of weather conditions.Transports students and other authorized persons on school routes in regular, special education, vocational or extracurricular trips as authorized by the Transportation Department.Successfully completes any school bus driver training programs and courses as prescribed by the State of Georgia and the Gainesville Board of Education.Operates the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia and the policies of the Georgia and Gainesville City Boards of Education and the procedures of the Transportation Department.Conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and its special equipment.Maintains orderly conduct of student passengers and reports unsafe acts and improper conduct to appropriate administration.Communicates effectively and professionally with school staff and public.Completes legible and accurate required reports in the prescribed manner and on a timely basis.Cleans and services the vehicle which includes sweeping, washing, fueling, etc. and reports needed repairs.Conducts emergency evacuation drills as required; provides maximum safety for passengers while on the bus and during loading and unloading; reports hazards along the existing route.Maintains route and schedule as planned.Maintains pleasant personality as well as clean and neat appearance.Maintains confidentiality.Works effectively and cooperatively with administrators, teachers and staff.Handles all duties in a timely and organized manner.Demonstrates ability to work/handle with special needs children.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:Physically capable of operating any and all school buses owned by Gainesville City SchoolsBasic literacy skillsPossesses or will obtain a valid CDL in either Class A or Class B with passenger, air brake and school bus endorsementsPass annual physical exam by a licensed Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy within 60 days prior to the first day of school, in accordance with the approved examination (DE Form 0514) prescribed by the State Board of EducationSubmit to and pass drug and alcohol testing as prescribed in Federal, State and Local standardsBe of moral characterDemonstrate mental and emotional stability which ensures the normal driving competency and efficiencyMinimum of 18 years of ageMinimum of 2 years driving experienceAbility to lift 50 poundsWorking Conditions:Mental Demands: Maintain emotional controlPhysical Demands: Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand/arm movements.Environmental Demands: Ability to work indoors and outdoors, moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.Equipment used: School bus with either manually or air operated seat or door as assigned by transportation director.
