Positive Action Positif encourages innovation and continuous learning in support of its community-focused mission.Role Description The Head of Communications is a full-time, on-site role based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role leads the organization’s overall communications strategy, ensuring consistent, compelling messaging across all external and internal channels. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and executing strategic communications plans, managing media relations, drafting and approving press releases, and serving as a primary spokesperson when needed. The Head of Communications will oversee brand positioning, corporate communications, and internal communications to align staff and stakeholders around key priorities. The role also involves supervising a small communications team, coordinating with program and leadership colleagues, managing content for digital and print platforms, and monitoring communication metrics to refine strategies.Qualifications Strong skills in Strategic Communications and Corporate Communications to shape and lead organization-wide messaging and positioning.Experience creating and managing Press Releases and handling media relations, including responding to inquiries and preparing spokespersons.Excellent Communication and Internal Communications capabilities to engage staff, leadership, and partners with clarity and consistency.Demonstrated ability to develop communication plans, manage campaigns, and oversee brand and reputation management.Proven experience in a communications leadership role, preferably in nonprofit, public health, or social impact sectors.Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills, with attention to detail and tone for diverse audiences.Experience managing or mentoring a team and collaborating effectively across departments and with external partners.Familiarity with digital communication tools, social media, and basic analytics to track performance and inform strategy.Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience.Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-centered approaches in both internal and external communications.
