A Substation Technician Learner will assist a higher-level technician in activities associated substation construction and maintenance. Incumbents are expected to develop intermediate skills and the ability to work with greater independence.ResponsibilitiesClearly understand the importance of company safe work practices and safety rulesBasic understanding of the Human Performance Tools and requirementsBasic understanding of the isolation of substation equipment and grounding practicesDemonstrates good verbal and written communications skillsBasic understanding of electrical drawings (substation equipment schematics and power system drawings)Basic understanding NERC compliance and the importance for accurate data and timely completion of assigned workBasic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skillsDevelops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical orderBasic understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics systemsExposure to Transmission and Distribution system switching activitiesDevelop a basic understanding of AC and DC basic principlesDemonstrate the basic ability to operate bucket, digger derrick truck and other areal devicesKey Skills And AbilitiesDemonstrated availability for after- hour’s work.Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.Develops positive working relationships and effective oral and written communication skills.Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.Demonstrated ability to pass panel review by meeting or exceeding requirements for step progression.Ability to work in a diverse environment with individuals from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.Basic written and oral communication skills.Must be capable of working on elevated work surface.Ability to pass any required background check for NERC/CIP/Nuclear compliance.Must pass appropriate level of Duke aptitude test.Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.Minimum/Basic Requirements Must have a valid State Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver’s License High School diploma or equivalent Additional Preferred QualificationsAdvanced technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance. frequently leads others.Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities with internal and external customers.Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.Provides coaches and mentors other Technicians.Provides high level of leadership and sets a positive example for others to follow.Advanced written and oral communication skills.Demonstrated ongoing leadership skills development.Software skills including word process, email, spreadsheets etc.Must have a permanent residence approximately forty-five minutes from their base location.Working ConditionsDemonstrated availability for after- hour’s work and call out rotation.Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.Must be capable of working on elevated work surfaces.This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading. Mobility Classification-OnsiteThis position is based on North and South CarolinaSpecific RequirementsHigh School diploma or equivalent and minimum of 3 years of Transmission or Distribution substation maintenance or construction experience or equivalent job-related and educational experienceMust have a valid State Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver’s LicenseAbility to pass any required background check for NERC/CIP/Nuclear compliance.Must pass appropriate level of Duke aptitude test.Demonstrated ability to pass panel review by meeting or exceeding requirements for step progression.Travel Requirements25-50%Relocation Assistance Provided (as applicable)NoRepresented/Union PositionNoVisa Sponsored PositionNo. This is not a Visa Sponsored Position.
