Records Manager
Position OverviewA large professional services organization is seeking an experienced Records Manager to oversee records and information management operations for its Washington, DC office. This role will partner closely with attorneys, administrative leadership, and staff to ensure the effective organization, retention, security, and accessibility of both physical and electronic records throughout the information lifecycle.The ideal candidate will bring strong operational leadership, knowledge of legal records management best practices, and experience implementing processes that support compliance, efficiency, and information governance initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesManage day-to-day records and information management operations for the officeOversee the organization, storage, retrieval, transfer, and destruction of physical and electronic recordsEnsure compliance with internal policies, legal hold requirements, retention schedules, and information governance standardsCoordinate file mobility and records transfers across departments and office locationsMaintain the integrity, confidentiality, and security of client and firm informationDevelop and implement records management procedures and process improvementsSupport attorneys and staff with records-related requests and operational needsMonitor records management workflows and performance metrics to improve efficiency and service levelsCollaborate with office leadership and cross-functional teams on records and information management initiativesSupervise and mentor records staff while assisting with departmental priorities and projectsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Business, Information Management, Library Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered5+ years of records or information management experience, including both physical and electronic records managementPrior experience within a law firm or professional services environment strongly preferredExperience using records management or information governance systems such as LegalKEY, iManage Records Manager (IRM), FileTrail, or similar platformsStrong understanding of records retention, legal holds, and information governance best practicesExcellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organizationSupervisory or team leadership experience preferredAbility to operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
