Apply today and be more with Baker.\nSummary\nThe Project Engineer supports field activities and spends a majority of time working with the Project Manager supporting project administration on multiple small projects, or one medium to large-size projects. Activities include managing the job transition process; and supporting the management of cost and schedule, constructability, technical evaluations, quality, safety, work planning, procurement, contract management, regulatory compliance, etc.\nRoles and Responsibilities\nThe Project Engineer will possess competency in the following areas in order to perform his/her role in a safe, productive, and effective manner. Note that the areas listed are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by co-workers assigned to this role. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions associated with this job.\nGenerates and obtains approvals of monthly billing and earned values\nDevelops and manages the project schedule on small or mid-sized projects\nAnalyzes targets and goals, job cost summaries, and other reports\nAlerts the Superintendent and Project Manager of project impact relating to resource management, crew make-up/size, etc.\nGenerates and obtains approval of the initial budget and subsequent updates, and reviews weekly job cost summaries and advises the Project Manager\nGenerates estimates of change orders and may interface with pre-construction on original bids\nCollaborates with pre-construction and the project team to manage the job transition process, communicate project requirements, and develop the initial procurement plans, budgets, etc.\nGenerates material quantity take-offs, scoping documents, terms and conditions, delivery, etc. as applicable to support the procurement process\nGenerates requests for proposal(s), solicits and reviews quotations, and recommends a procurement decision to Project Manager\nPrepares field purchase orders for standard purchase packages, and generates and obtains approval of Major Purchase Orders\nGathers and roughs-in monthly financial reports, and participates in the project financial reviews\nWorks with the Project Manager to approve and code project invoices\nGenerates and obtains approval of technical records such as constructability reports, RFI's, inspection records, work packages and deviation reports\nCoordinates with the Superintendent, Field Project Engineer, and Line and Grade to generate required as-built records\nManages work package closure, punch lists, and project turnover process and approves pre- and post-pour checklists\nCollects necessary documentation to identify and determine impact of potential contract changes, disputes, and claims\nLeads LEAN/SQP committee and identifies improvement opportunities\nEnsures all subcontractors are in compliance with terms of subcontracts, generates, and obtains approval on impact notices as needed\nReviews and confirms reports documenting compliance (Company and subcontractors) with prevailing wage, workforce utilization, MBE/SBE participation, etc., and advises the Project Manager of issues\nInterfaces with Safety and Risk Management in establishing clinics, managing first report of injuries, and assisting with co-worker case management\nFollows Company Recruitment and Hiring Guidelines\nMay conduct new-hire orientation and process E-Verify (must be certified)\nMay coordinate tracking and completion of training requirements with project management\nRequirements\nBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years’ of experience or 6 years’ of construction related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience\nProficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint\nThe following competencies are needed to successfully perform this job:\nAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations\nAbility to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures\nAbility to communicate well with all levels of workers involved with the project\nAbility to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, and trigonometry to practical situations\nAbility to analyze and compute mathematical differences from all stages of drawings from conceptual to final drawings including development of shop drawingsAbility to understand Cost Accounting\nBasic understanding of construction software such as Primavera, Timberline, Vista and the like\nAbility to understand, customize and modify spreadsheets\nAbility to direct work and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of co-workers\nAbility to work in a team environment\nAbility to define problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions\nAbility to develop construction schedule via the critical path method\nAbility to understand contracts, specifications, drawings, and scope of work\nAbility to be proactive in maximizing our return on investment at all time\nAt Baker Construction, we welcome those who are driven to make things happen.
