Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.\nHDR is currently in need of a Structural Engineer to work as a member of our Water Business Group within the Dams, Levees, and Civil Works Team in Minnesota.\nPrimary Responsibilities\nThis individual will be a member of the multi-disciplinary, Minneapolis Water Group team and perform structural engineering for local and national dams, levees, and civil works projects as well as performing structural engineering for other infrastructure projects.\nThe candidate will have 10 years (or more) experience in the field of structural engineering analysis and design with a focus on hydraulic structures under USACE and/or FERC structural design criteria. In the role of Hydraulic Structures Engineer you will:\nWork closely with our Dams Levee and Civil Works and Hydropower teams to develop scopes of work, budget estimates and implement project analysis work plans.\nConduct structural analyses, evaluations and designs; develop design options or recommendations with supporting calculations.\nReview structural documents and coordinate design with all disciplines.\nDevelop design plans, sections and details as part of multi-disciplinary design teams for civil works projects. Conduct design development and contract document work sessions in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines.\nPerform engineering assignments that may require critical thinking and creativity to address unique design elements that have limited engineering manual or code-based guidance.\nWrite and edit specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations for various structure types such as floodwalls, dams, water control structures, hydraulic gates, floodgates, spillways, retaining walls, sheet pile walls, cofferdams, and drainage structures.\nIndependently coordinate the work of the structural design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project.\nEstablish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance and comment resolution.\nAssist with condition assessment for various hydraulic structures (FERC Part 12 experience is a plus)\nProvide structural engineering services during construction including construction observation, inspections, submittal and RFI reviews, and ITC responses.\nAdditional Responsibilities/Requirements\nThe candidate shall have educational and/or work experience in the field of dams, hydraulic structures and large civil works infrastructure for water management and energy production.\nKnowledge of USACE design and construction procedures and policies, dam safety assurance policy and guidance, and FERC Dam Safety background a plus.\nExperience with navigation structures and large hydraulic gates (including experience with fiber/polymer materials) is a plus.\nKnowledge of construction document preparation including drawings, specifications and cost estimates.\nConstruction administration and observation experience is a plus.\nThis individual will be expected to coordinate with the project leads to implement measures to successfully meet all project goals and objectives. Good written and verbal communication skills are expected and required for this position.\nPerform other duties as needed.\nLI-BC1\nRequired Qualifications\nBS Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering required. MS Civil Engineering a plus.\n5 years structural design experience required.\nExpectation is that this individual will work toward obtaining professional licensure within the license requirements and timelines of the State of Minnesota with a desire to become registered in additional states as required.\nAptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience preferred with computer applications in Civil Engineering; (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, Risa 3D, MATLAB, Revit, Staad Pro, LS-DYNA, TrueGrid, and SAP2000).
