This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of all financial information in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.\nThe Corporate Controller oversees all core accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and tax reporting. This position lays a key leadership role in strengthening internal controls, improving financial processes, and delivering actionable financial insights to support executive decision-making.\nThe Corporate Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Vice President, Finance – Family Office.\nMajor Duties and Responsibilities:\nLead the preparation and issuance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP\nOversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and tax compliance\nManage multi-union payroll operations with a large seasonal workforce\nDirect the monthly close process, ensuring timely completion, accuracy, and proper review of all reconciliations\nPrepare and present financial reporting and analysis, including variance analysis (actual vs. budget, prior periods)\nServe as primary liaison with external auditors and lead the annual financial statement audit\nEstablish, maintain, and enforce strong internal controls and financial policies\nDrive process improvements, system enhancements, and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy\nMonitor financial performance and recommend cost control and operational efficiency improvements\nOversee intercompany accounting, transactions, and reconciliations\nLead, develop, and retain a high-performing accounting team\nPrepare and manage the annual submission for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Contractor’s Certificate of Eligibility, ensuring full compliance\nEnsure accurate accounting for fixed assets, including capital additions, disposals, and lease accounting\nOversee union reporting, related payments, and reconciliations\nSupport regulatory and agency reporting requirements as needed\nProvide financial information to our financial institutions\n\nRequired Skill/Knowledge:\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA preferred)\n10–12 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in the construction industry\nMinimum 5 years of leadership experience managing accounting teams\nStrong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements\nExperience managing external audits and auditor relationships\nExperience with corporate tax matters, including C-Corps and S-Corps\nAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools (Power BI preferred)\nStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills\nExperience with percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting\nExperience in multi-union construction accounting environments\nFamiliarity with IDOT financial reporting requirements or similar regulatory frameworks\nExperience with ERP systems and process automation initiatives\nSuccess Metrics\nFinancial statements and reporting delivered accurately and on schedule\nClean audit results with no material weaknesses or significant deficiencies\nZero missed regulatory or compliance deadlines\nHigh-quality financial reporting that supports executive and ownership decision-making\nStrengthened internal controls and reduced operational risk\nMeasurable improvements in accounting efficiency and process standardization\nDevelopment and retention of a strong, capable accounting team\nWell-documented and consistently applied accounting policies and procedures\n\nWhy Plote\nAt Plote we care about the health and well-being of our employees.
